Job description

To assist Housing Rights to achieve its vision and deliver its strategic objectives through: supporting frontline housing and homelessness advice practitioners to access up to date, accessible, professional content to empower advice provision; liaising with policy and advice teams to develop and maintain resources and specialist support for frontline housing and homelessness advice practitioners.

Responsibilities

• In consultation with members of the advice, policy and training teams, identify the information and support needs of internal and external practitioners and professional content users on housing, homelessness and related issues.
• In liaison with the Advice Content Coordinator, ensure all changes in relevant legislation, policy and practice are identified and disseminated to internal and external users.
• Develop and coordinate information and resources for the purposes of supporting practitioner needs, including the Housing Advice Practitioners Forum.
• Produce and maintain a range of online content, including professional resources, to meet identified requirements.
• In collaboration with internal expertise, produce content including reports, articles, social media posts and online content for housingrights.org.uk and to undertake other means of communicating legislative, policy and practice related issues.
• To ensure content is created and maintained in line with the organisation’s content strategy and style guidelines.
• To participate in a helpline rota providing an advice line for individuals and agencies on homelessness and housing needs, as required.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and practice areas and identify and review good practice to contribute to the development of innovative solutions to housing, homelessness and related issues.
• Ensure the organisation’s library is adequately resourced and meets the needs of users, including access to relevant subscriptions.
• Ensure practitioner resources are regularly reviewed, updated and maintained as appropriate to meet practitioner and user needs.
• Ensure the internal MS Teams/SharePoint resource channel is maintained with relevant, accurate and up to date information for users including signposting to housingrights.org.uk as appropriate.
• Monitor and review the effectiveness and quality of practitioner support services and identify areas for improvement to meet practitioner needs.
• To create, develop and maintain effective working relationships.
• To ensure client care and customer focus by creating, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with service users, external agencies and relevant stakeholders.
• Lead, facilitate and contribute to meetings and group discussions.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Good standard of education including literacy and numeracy.
• Experience writing, designing, editing and preparation of content in at least two areas: articles for public-facing website; information resources, e.g. guides, information booklets; draft legislative responses; press/journal articles.
• Experience of representing an organisation to a range of audiences including the public.
• Demonstrated experience in the preparation, organisation and facilitation of meetings and group discussions.
• A good understanding of social justice issues and government policies relevant to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

Desirable Skills

• A third level education qualification in a relevant subject for example law, social science.
• Experience in the preparation and delivery of training courses.
• Experience of providing advice to individuals and agencies on social welfare issues.
• Demonstrated experience of maintaining and updating library or information resources.
• Demonstrated experience of facilitating the involvement of the public (at individual or group level) to actively and positively communicate their views.
• Demonstrated experience of conducting research and collating information or charts.
• Demonstrated experience in use of social media in a professional capacity.
• Demonstrated experience in use of ICT as a means of communication.
