Staff Nurse (OCD/BDD NCG Inpatient & Outpatients)

£38.49k - £46.85k per annum
Full-time
The closing date is 30 July 2026

Job summary
Make a meaningful difference in specialist mental health care by joining the UK's foremost OCD and BDD treatment centre as a Band 5 Staff Nurse. Working within our expert team at the National OCD/BDD Service, you'll deliver autonomous, high-quality nursing care to patients with complex needs who have not responded to previous treatments.

Based at our distinguished Seacole Ward--a 14-bed inpatient unit within Springfield University Hospital--you'll work collaboratively with an excellent multidisciplinary team including Psychiatrists, CBT therapists, Nursing staff and Occupational Therapists.

We're seeking dynamic, motivated Registered Nurses who are passionately committed to providing outstanding mental health care. This position is ideal for nurses looking to specialise in OCD/BDD treatment or expand their expertise in specialist inpatient mental health services.

Career Progression pathways and development opportunities:
We are committed to getting the very best out of our staff and support staff in their career aspirations. We have career pathways available, where you will be able to develop your skills and build on your experience to progress into other roles across different specialties. For this role, we offer career pathways to Senior Staff Nurse, Charge Nurse and Nurse Specialist roles. In addition, we offer ongoing training and development in specialised mental health care, OCD/BDD treatment modalities, advanced clinical skills and leadership development programmes.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you'll work autonomously to deliver comprehensive, person-centred mental health care within our specialist OCD/BDD inpatient service. You'll lead on care planning, assessment and evaluation whilst coordinating multidisciplinary team interventions and supervising junior colleagues.

Your role involves administering and monitoring medications, conducting clinical observations and implementing recovery-focused interventions. You'll engage therapeutically with service users experiencing complex OCD and BDD presentations, recognising and responding appropriately to mental health symptoms and challenging behaviours.

Critical responsibilities include maintaining accurate clinical records, facilitating admissions and discharges, and ensuring adherence to mental health legislation including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. You'll advocate for service users' rights whilst promoting their independence and recovery journey.

This is an outstanding opportunity for experienced mental health nurses seeking to develop expertise in specialist OCD/BDD care whilst contributing to a nationally recognised service at the forefront of evidence-based treatment.

Flexible working:
We are proud to offer agile and flexible working opportunities as part of our new ways of working, and we are happy to talk flexible working at the interview stage.

About us
We are Proud to Belong at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust.

We have expert services, a rich history and a clear commitment to providing the best quality care for those with mental ill-health. The Care Quality Commission already rates our services as 'good' - we aspire to be 'outstanding'.

This is a great time to join us. We are transforming the way we care for our communities to support our mission of Making Life Better Together. We have built two brand new mental health facilities at Springfield University Hospital, which are amongst the best in the world. More developments are planned across our sites and services as we invest a further £120m to upgrade and modernise our estate by 2027.

We are inclusive and diverse and strive to be actively anti racist. We want to attract people from all backgrounds and experiences to enrich the work we do together. We are proud to co-produce and involve our local communities in all that we do.

We offer flexible working, career development and a variety of benefits to enable a positive, welcoming environment in which our people and their careers can thrive.

Come and join our inclusive teams and help our patients on their recovery journey.

Job responsibilities
Core Clinical Responsibilities:
You will work autonomously to implement quality nursing care, contributing to recovery-focused treatment through therapeutic engagement and activities. Leading on fundamental care provision including nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort and emotional support, you will undertake one-to-one engagement with service users in an honest, open and non-judgemental way.

Medication Management:
Administering and monitoring medication side-effects whilst ensuring service user compliance. You will maintain safe custody of medicines, sharps and clinical equipment, reporting all incidents following Trust policy.

Care Coordination:
Coordinating and evaluating collaborative patient-centred care, getting feedback and improving plans with the multidisciplinary team. You will develop care plans that reflect service user needs working in partnership with service users, wider MDT and families/relatives/significant others.

Clinical Assessment and Monitoring:
Monitoring and recording service user clinical observations including physical observations and vital signs, escalating concerns appropriately to relevant professionals. Implementing recovery principles by encouraging healthy lifestyles and facilitating psychosocial activities.
