The school is seeking a caring, organised and professional Welfare Officer to join its support team and take responsibility for the day-to-day welfare needs of pupils.
The Role
The Welfare Officer will provide practical support to pupils throughout the school day and work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders.
Responsibilities will include:
Providing first-aid and welfare support where appropriately qualified.
Responding to pupil illness and minor injuries.
Maintaining accurate welfare records.
Contacting parents and carers when required.
Supporting pupils who become unwell during the school day.
Administering medication in accordance with school procedures and appropriate training.
Maintaining medical and welfare documentation.
Supporting pupils with ongoing health-related requirements within the school's procedures.
Monitoring pupil wellbeing.
Liaising with parents regarding welfare matters.
Supporting attendance-related welfare concerns.
Ensuring appropriate supplies and welfare resources are maintained.
Contributing to health and safety procedures.
Supporting staff with relevant welfare information.
Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Escalating concerns appropriately.
Supporting the school's wider pastoral provision.
Pupil Wellbeing
The Welfare Officer will be an important point of contact for pupils who need support during the school day.
You will need to create a calm and reassuring environment while ensuring that pupils are able to return to learning wherever appropriate.
The role requires someone who can distinguish between routine welfare matters and situations requiring further support or escalation.
Medical Administration
Where appropriate and within school procedures, the Welfare Officer may support the administration and monitoring of medication.
This will require:
Accurate record keeping.
Appropriate authorisation.
Careful adherence to school procedures.
Appropriate communication with parents.
Maintaining secure medical information.
Ensuring medication is stored appropriately.
The successful candidate will be expected to follow all relevant training and school procedures.
Working With Parents
The Welfare Officer will communicate regularly with parents and carers regarding pupil welfare.
This could include informing families when a pupil becomes unwell, discussing ongoing welfare arrangements or requesting additional information.
Communication must always be professional, clear and appropriately confidential.
Safeguarding
The Welfare Officer will contribute to the school's wider safeguarding culture.
The successful candidate will need to recognise that changes in a child's presentation, behaviour or wellbeing may require further consideration and should understand the importance of reporting concerns through the correct channels.

Previous experience in pupil welfare, healthcare, pastoral support or education.
