Primary School – Enfield, North London

We are seeking to appoint a committed, caring, and enthusiastic Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and dedicated Early Years team at a well-established primary school in Enfield, North London. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about early childhood education and who understands the importance of providing children with a strong, positive start to their educational journey.

Our school serves a diverse local community and is proud of its inclusive ethos, clear values, and commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and pastoral care. We believe that children learn best in an environment where they feel safe, valued, and encouraged, and our Early Years provision reflects this belief through a carefully planned curriculum and a nurturing approach to learning and development.

The Role

As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and the wider Early Years team to support children in Nursery and/or Reception. You will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, ensuring that learning experiences are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and responsive to the needs of individual children.

You will support children across all areas of learning, including communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, and mathematics. The role requires a patient, observant, and nurturing practitioner who understands how young children learn through play, exploration, and positive interaction with adults and peers.

This position is well suited to someone who is enthusiastic about early years education and who is committed to supporting children’s holistic development during this critical stage of learning.

Key Responsibilities

The successful EYFS Teaching Assistant will be expected to carry out a wide range of duties, including:

  • Supporting the class teacher in the planning and delivery of learning activities in line with the EYFS framework

  • Working with individual children and small groups to support learning, development, and early intervention

  • Supporting children’s communication and language development, including listening skills, vocabulary development, and early phonics

  • Encouraging the development of personal, social, and emotional skills such as confidence, independence, cooperation, and self-regulation

  • Supporting learning through structured activities and child-initiated play, both indoors and outdoors

  • Assisting with the observation, assessment, and recording of children’s progress and achievements

  • Helping to create and maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating learning environment

  • Supporting children during daily routines, including arrival, transitions between activities, mealtimes, and toileting where required

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and modelling appropriate social interactions and routines

  • Supporting children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, Early Years practitioners, and other members of staff

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an EYFS Teaching Assistant who is caring, reliable, and committed to supporting young children’s learning and wellbeing. You should have a genuine interest in early childhood development and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children and adults.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with children in an EYFS setting, such as a primary school, nursery, or early years provision

  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to working with young children

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a busy classroom environment

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

A relevant early years or childcare qualification (such as Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable, although candidates with relevant experience and a willingness to develop professionally are encouraged to apply.

Our School and Early Years Provision

Our school offers a supportive and welcoming working environment where staff are valued and encouraged to contribute to the wider life of the school. The Early Years provision is well-resourced and carefully structured to support children’s learning and development across all areas of the EYFS curriculum.

We place a strong emphasis on partnership with parents and carers and work closely with families to support smooth transitions into Nursery and Reception. The Early Years team benefits from clear leadership, collaborative planning opportunities, and access to ongoing training and professional development.

What We Offer

  • A welcoming and inclusive school community

  • A supportive and experienced Early Years team

  • Well-resourced indoor and outdoor learning environments

  • Opportunities for professional development and training

  • Clear guidance and support from senior leaders

  • A role where your contribution to children’s early development is recognised and valued

This is a term-time only position and may be offered on a full-time basis , depending on the needs of the school. The role is suitable for individuals seeking a long-term position within a primary school and who are committed to supporting children during the early stages of their education.

Safeguarding

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references, and all relevant pre-employment checks in line with statutory safeguarding guidance.
