Training Manager

£39.6 - £46.6 per hourEstimated
Full-time

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a T raining Manager to join our Ground Engineering team working on the Sizewell C project in Nacton, Ipswich.

Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low-carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke.

We are more than just an alliance; we are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.

Role purpose: To lead, manage and have operational oversight of all training activity across the GSA project, ensuring a consistently competent, compliant and capable workforce across all delivery partners. The Training Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary training team and work in close collaboration with HR, Site Leadership and partner organisations to ensure a consistent, high-quality approach to learning, onboarding and qualifications management across the project.

What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will:

  • Own and maintain the project training governance framework;
  • Ensure training meets project, contractual, statutory and industry requirements;
  • Set clear training standards, processes and controls across all partners;
  • Provide assurance that training arrangements are effective throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of project-wide training;
  • Align training activity with construction schedules, mobilisation plans and operational priorities;
  • Oversee training requests, scheduling, delivery coordination and stakeholder demand;
  • Manage training compliance, competence assurance, qualifications, certifications and records;
  • Act as the senior escalation point for audits, inspections, assurance reviews and training issues;
  • Work with HR, site leadership and partner organisations to support onboarding and workforce deployment;
  • Lead, manage, coach and develop the training team, setting clear priorities and expectations;
  • Identify training risks, resolve issues and drive continuous improvement in training processes and delivery.

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification in Learning & Development or equivalent experience overseeing training activities within a complex, fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrable experience of managing training compliance, qualifications, and competence records across a diverse workforce;
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including partner organisations, contractors, and external training providers;
  • Experience operating within a regulated, safety-critical, or large-scale project environment;
  • Experience supporting onboarding, mobilisation, and deployment of large or multi-partner workforces;
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to challenge and engage stakeholders at all levels;
  • Highly developed organisational, planning, and prioritisation skills, able to manage competing demands;
  • High level of resilience, confidence, and professionalism when managing complex or sensitive training issues;
  • Advanced IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel) and experience with training or competence management systems.

Desirable

  • Proven experience of leading, managing, or supervising a team, including setting priorities, allocating work, and providing performance oversight;
  • Strong working knowledge of training governance, compliance, and competence assurance processes;
  • Ability to analyse training and compliance data, identify risks, and present clear, actionable information to stakeholders.
