School Caretaker
Location: Chigwell
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary (Long-term Ongoing)
Working Hours: 36-hour shift pattern
• Friday: shifts scheduled between 6:00am and 3:00pm
Flexibility may occasionally be required to support school events.

We are looking for a dependable, proactive, and practical School Caretaker to support the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy school site in Chigwell. This is a key role within the school community, ensuring the premises remain safe, secure, well-maintained, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors.
The ideal candidate will have strong maintenance and DIY skills, take pride in maintaining high standards, and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities
• Manage the daily maintenance, security, and general upkeep of the school premises
• Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks
• Ensure the school environment remains clean, safe, and fully operational at all times
• Liaise with external contractors and oversee work completed on-site
• Support school functions and events, including room set-up and site logistics
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and compliance checks Candidate Requirements
• Previous experience working as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, or in a similar role
• Strong practical maintenance and DIY abilities
• Good knowledge of health and safety regulations, including fire safety and Legionella control
• Reliable, organised, and capable of working independently
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Enhanced DBS check is essential
