Job summary
We seek to appoint applicants who are interested in the diversity of clinical opportunities that are available to those working within a District General Hospital. The aim of the dynamic and constantly developing team is to adapt a vision for a modern paediatric department where holistic approach and close collaboration with both primary and tertiary healthcare services is a paramount in the care for the children and their families. Currently, NCIC provides paediatric assessment and inpatient services at both CIC and WCH, with 38 beds across the two sites (24 general and acute beds at CIC and 14 beds at WCH). CIC operates as 16 inpatient beds and eight assessment beds from 08.00 to 20.00 hours and 18 beds overnight. Paediatric patients with acute surgical problems are being admitted at CIC. The 14 beds in WCH operate as seven inpatient beds and seven assessment beds from 08.00 to 21.00 hours; they function as a 14-bed area overnight. Elective surgery in children is performed on both sites.We are currently in the process of phasing changes to the way we deliver the short stay Paediatric Assessment Units across both sites with a plan to move to a more extended SSPAU hours with the support of experienced and newly qualified nurse practitioners. The SSPAU isbeing developed and supported by close collaboration with A&E department. Main duties of the job
Consultants, Registrars, Junior Trainees and Nurse Practitioners all provide direct clinical care for children referred to hospital. For Middle Grade this involves resident shifts incl. weekends. - The assessment and management of acute paediatric patients presenting to the unit forassessment and/or admission.
- The provision of experienced paediatric support to the emergency department andresuscitation area, when required. This includes attendance to the resuscitation bay.
- The provision of advanced neonatal resuscitation cover to the the Consultant-led labour wardand postnatal unit.
- Middle grade paediatric cover of a level 1 SCBU, Transitional Care and Postnatal ward.
- Superision of Junior Staff and PNPs
- Supporting junior doctors to maintain high standards of communication by attendinghandover and supporting discharge process
- General Paediatric outpatient clinics
- Participation in teaching of Junior doctors, nursing staff and medical students

- MBChB or equivalent
- EPLS or APLS/NLS or other accredited life support course.
- Full GMC registration and a licence to practice

- Practical experience in resuscitation and stabilisation of premature babies
