About the Team
The European Policy team (EP) leads HM Treasury’s policy advice and analysis about the UK's diverse economic and financial links to the EU. We unify the Treasury’s approach to the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) alongside other EU agreements. EP works closely with the International Group, the Treasury, and other Government departments to ensure the Chancellor and Treasury Ministers have detailed strategic advice, analysis, and briefing on the evolving relationship with the EU and other European trading partners.
Our team comprises around 20 staff based in London and Darlington, including specialists, economists, and finance professionals. We balance long-term policy and strategy development with reactive demands when servicing ministerial meetings or committees. About the Job
Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Assist in the organization of official international EU-UK meetings concerning the Financial Settlement and UK involvement in EU programmes.
  • Engage with government bodies to formulate the UK's plan for upcoming participation in EU programmes.
  • Head HM Treasury's supervision of UK involvement in the EU space programme.
  • Handle correspondence related to the Financial Settlement and UK involvement in EU programmes.
  • Engage in assurance tasks related to EU Financial Settlement Invoices.
  • Oversee the advisory process regarding the payment of EU Financial Settlement Invoices.This remarkable role provides you with the opportunity to help craft the UK's financial relationship with the European Union. As a Policy Adviser – European Finances, your responsibilities include policy oversight of UK involvement in EU programmes under the TCA. You will also support the UK in meeting its financial obligations through the EU Financial Settlement under the Withdrawal Agreement.
About You
We are looking for someone who can build positive relationships with a wide network of partners in HM Treasury and wider government. They will use these relationships to deliver objectives. The successful candidate will manage their time independently and balance competing demands to complete objectives on time. You should communicate complex information clearly, considering others’ needs and perspectives. Your ability to work collaboratively and deliver flawlessly in a dynamic environment will be key to your success in this role.
