Eaton Aerospace Group Mission Systems Division (MSD) Precision Control Systems (PCS) has an opening for a Senior Engineering Manager located at the Cheltenham, UK facility. The Senior Engineering Manager position has direct reporting to the Head of Engineering. The primary function of this position is to manage the Mechanical Design and Development team and to provide support for the Critical Controls, Stores Ejection, and Data Processing value streams. This role manages engineering on new product development & introduction, research & development programs, and aftermarket programs working collaboratively with the program management and in-service support teams.

This role is responsible for the delivery and deployment of resources into the development and support projects of the engineering department. In support of other Senior Engineering Managers (SEMs) and under the guidance of the Head of Engineering this role will provide a suitably qualified and experienced team to meet the quantifiable needs of the business. You will also effectively manage risk and provide technical expertise to aid the Director of Engineering Development in satisfying the project needs of the business.

• Management and executional engineering functions and activities for New Product Introduction, Internal Research and Development, and Aftermarket along with support of the In-Service Support team.
• Focus on on-time delivery of project activities in order to meet an OTIF (On Time in Full) delivery. Ensure scope of work, budgets and deadlines are clearly understood.
• Ensure timely and appropriate preventative and corrective actions are taken as needed and ensure the quality of technical work meets the satisfaction of external and internal customers.
• Responsible for the engineering bid estimate of Non-Recurring Costs (NRC) and engineering schedule.
• Deliver current projects, work packages and activities within +/-5% of the current agreed planned cost and schedule. Deliver future bids within +/-5% of the as bid cost and schedule.
• Be proactive in identifying areas of risk and propose ideas for de-risking to the project team for review and action.
• Ensure that the financial and human resource requirements necessary to complete all projects are identified and clearly communicated to the leadership team. Lead, motivate and develop an engineering team of the correct size and with the necessary skills to deliver the budget and strategic plan objectives.
• Strengthen talent within the company by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, mentoring new employees, create opportunities for the growth and development of the existing engineering team.
• Evaluate employee performance and provide additional coaching and support as needed.
• Ensure continuous improvement and alignment of business processes, creating a team-focused environment where all collaborate and execute successfully.
• Assure appropriate product documentation, design standards, and related material specifications are developed. Assure that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to quality, reliability and cost.
• Use best practices of robust design (Design for Six Sigma, DFSS) & promote the “analysis first” mindset. .
• Identify key engineering metrics, monitor performance and implement improvements accordingly.
• Maintain close liaison with customers for application reviews, developing new product requirements, and major modifications of existing products, prototype qualification test requirements and to resolve product performance deficiencies.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
• Previous success in managing engineers in a leadership role, preferably for a minimum of 5 years.
• 10 years of experience within aerospace or a high-tech industry with new product development and sustaining support.
• Must be a citizen of the United Kingdom and have the ability to achieve SC (potentially DV) clearance

POSITION CRITERIA

• Experience in conducting competitive analyses and defining/executing business level strategy.
• Familiarity with Electronic Control, Data Systems, and Pneumatic systems and/or products is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, experience with design processes, portfolio and program management skills, knowledge of customer strategies, successful new product introduction experience, creative/innovative thinking.
• Proven track record of driving change and ability to develop and execute technology development plans.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

• Advanced engineering degree or MBA preferred.
• CEng certification preferred
• Experience working with the Defence and Major Prime Contractors.
• Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures.
• DFSS Greenbelt Certification
• Competence in use of Microsoft Office products

Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law and be prepared to successfully undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria.
