Behaviour Mentor - North & West London
Location: North & West London
Contract Type: Daily Supply / Long-Term / Temp-to-Perm / Permanent
Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience
Employer: Leading Education Recruitment Agency
A Leading Education Recruitment Agency is working in close partnership with a wide network of mainstream schools, SEMH provisions, pupil referral units, and alternative education settings across North and West London to recruit experienced and motivated Behaviour Mentors . These schools support pupils who face significant barriers to learning due to challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation, trauma, anxiety, and unmet special educational needs , and they are seeking professionals who can provide calm, consistent, and relationship-led support.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils whose behaviour presents challenges within a school environment. Many pupils may struggle with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties, adverse childhood experiences, or mental health challenges , which can manifest as emotional outbursts, withdrawal, low-level disruption, or more complex behaviour incidents.
Your role will focus on early intervention, emotional regulation, de-escalation, and positive behaviour support , helping pupils to remain engaged with education and develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and socially.
You may work 1:1 with an individual pupil , support small intervention groups , or provide flexible support across classrooms or year groups. Some placements involve working in reflection rooms, inclusion units, or alternative provision settings , supporting pupils following behaviour incidents and helping them reintegrate successfully into lessons.
Key Responsibilities
Provide structured and consistent behaviour mentoring in line with individual behaviour plans
Support pupils to recognise emotional triggers and develop self-regulation strategies
Use calm, trauma-informed de-escalation techniques
Promote positive behaviour, routines, boundaries, and expectations
Act as a trusted adult and positive role model within the school
Support pupils during transitions, break times, and other high-risk periods
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals
Monitor progress and provide regular feedback on behaviour and engagement
Maintain accurate behaviour, progress, and safeguarding records
Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion policies at all times
