What this role is all about

We’re looking for a Senior Actuarial Manager to take a leading role in shaping Vitality’s health pricing strategy and strengthening our technical pricing capability. This is a senior, hands-on position with responsibility for developing complex risk, demand, elasticity and technical rate models, advancing price optimisation and setting the direction for pricing innovation and testing. The role will lead specialist actuarial talent, influence senior stakeholders and turn complex analysis into commercially effective decisions that support sustainable growth, retention and margin.

What you'll be doing

• Lead the development of risk models for individual and SME health insurance products using machine learning techniques alongside GLMs
• Build complex demand, price elasticity and technical rate models, taking ownership of the methodology from data and feature design through to validation and sign-off
• Develop and scale Vitality’s price optimisation capability by creating the frameworks, tools and processes required for live pricing decisions
• Design and analyse price tests and controlled experiments to generate robust evidence and improve pricing performance
• Set the roadmap for demand modelling and price testing, prioritising activity according to commercial value and strategic impact
• Deliver modelling innovations that produce measurable improvements across growth, retention, margin and other key commercial outcomes
• Apply expert judgement to challenge assumptions, assess uncertainty and recommend technically robust pricing solutions
• Present complex technical work, risks and opportunities clearly to senior stakeholders and governance forums
• Lead projects across technical, commercial and operational teams, influencing decisions and securing support for new approaches
• Lead and develop a small specialist team, setting high technical standards and building capability through coaching and knowledge sharing

What do you need to thrive?

• Qualified actuary with FIA or an equivalent qualification, or an equivalent professional background with substantial pricing experience
• Significant experience delivering insurance pricing work, ideally within health or personal lines general insurance
• Strong hands-on experience building risk and demand models using GLMs and machine learning techniques such as GBMs
• Deep understanding of price optimisation and how risk and demand models combine to inform pricing decisions
• A strong track record of delivering modelling innovation with measurable commercial impact
• Credibility when presenting complex technical work, uncertainty and limitations to senior stakeholders and governance forums
• Proven ability to influence without authority and secure support across commercial, operational and technical teams
• Strong prioritisation skills, with the ability to balance long-term model development against time-critical deliverables
• Experience leading, coaching or developing actuarial and pricing specialists
• Experience in experimental design, pricing software, SQL, Python or Power BI would be advantageous
