Individual Needs Assistant - Primary School
Location: Mid Sussex
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Start Date: October 2026
Contract: Long-term
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Academics are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Individual Needs Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Mid Sussex from the start of October.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and wants to make a genuine difference to a pupil's learning, development and wellbeing.
The Role:
* Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs
* Support the pupil to access and engage with their learning
* Build a positive, trusting relationship with the child
* Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour
* Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team
* Adapt support according to the individual needs of the pupil
* Provide emotional and pastoral support where required
* Help create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
The Ideal Candidate:
* Previous experience supporting children with SEN/additional needs in a UK school setting
* Experience working on a 1:1 basis would be highly desirable
* A patient, calm and nurturing approach
* Confident supporting children with a range of additional needs
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Reliable, resilient and passionate about supporting children
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply for one
