Full-time

About the Role

The Young Adult Service (YAS) supports young adults aged 16–25 with additional support needs to develop independence, confidence, life skills, and meaningful community connections. We are looking for a compassionate, motivated, and enthusiastic Support Worker to join our team.

As a Support Worker, you will provide person-centred support that enables young adults to achieve their individual goals, participate in their communities, and enjoy positive life experiences. You will work closely with colleagues, families, and external professionals to ensure the highest standards of care and support are delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred support to young adults with additional support needs, promoting independence, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Support individuals with daily living activities, social opportunities, educational goals, and personal development.
  • Encourage and empower young adults to make choices and have control over their own lives.
  • Assist individuals to access community resources, activities, and opportunities.
  • Promote dignity, respect, equality, and positive outcomes in all aspects of support.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with young adults, families, carers, and external professionals.
  • Follow individual support plans, risk assessments, and agreed strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, reports, and documentation.
  • Contribute to support planning, reviews, and outcome-focused discussions.
  • Support young adults with personal care where required.
  • Promote health, safety, safeguarding, and wellbeing at all times.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, support and supervision sessions, and continuous professional development.
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and the individuals we support.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities, additional support needs, autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs (formal or informal experience considered).
  • Experience supporting individuals who may display behaviours of concern or present with challenging behaviour.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young adults to achieve their potential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, patient, reliable, and proactive approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Willingness to work towards a relevant qualification in Health and Social Care if not already achieved.

Desirable Requirements

  • SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting individuals with autism, learning disabilities, or complex support needs.
  • Autism Awareness training.
  • Experience implementing behaviour support plans and proactive strategies to support individuals during times of distress.

If you are passionate about supporting young adults to live fulfilling lives and want to be part of a dedicated and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.
