Research Assistant in Behavioural Science

£16.46 per hour
Temporary

The post-holder will work as a Research Assistant with Max Maier on the project 'Understanding the Heterogeneity of Behavioural Interventions Through Mixture Modelling', funded by a Behavioural Research UK (BR-UK) Commissioning Fund Accelerator Award. The post-holder will support the project with various tasks, such as study coding, data analysis, setting up online experiments, and writing.

Selection will take place in two stages: (1) shortlisting based on cover letter, CV, and academic transcript, and (2) a short work task involving programming for shortlisted candidates. Duties and responsibilities

1. Code primary studies and moderators in large meta-analytic datasets, including re-reading and coding diagnostic studies within effect size clusters.

2. Conduct data analysis in R and Python.

3. Set up, test, and manage online experiments and surveys on Qualtrics.

4. Prepare figures, tables, and reproducible analysis scripts, and help maintain open science materials (e.g., code repositories, preregistrations).

5. Participate actively in project meetings and work collaboratively with the wider research team.

6. Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and , as directed by the Principal Investigator.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in psychology, behavioural science, statistics, economics, computer science, or a related quantitative discipline; 
  • Proficiency in programming in R and in Python; 
  • Strong grounding in quantitative research methods and statistics; 
  • Excellent written communication skills; 
  • High attention to detail and accuracy (e.g., for study coding and data management); 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a research team; ability to organise own workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with LaTeX/Overleaf;
  • Experience setting up experiments or surveys in Qualtrics; 
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git/GitHub) and reproducible research workflows.
