EYFS Teaching Assistant
Primary School – Barnet, North London
We are pleased to invite applications for the position of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant at our welcoming and well-regarded primary school located in the borough of Barnet, North London. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting young children during the earliest and most important stage of their education.
Our school is committed to providing a high-quality, inclusive learning environment where every child is supported to achieve their full potential. We serve a diverse local community and pride ourselves on our strong pastoral care, clear values, and positive relationships between pupils, staff, and families. The Early Years provision is a central part of our school, and we are seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant who shares our commitment to nurturing confident, curious, and resilient learners.
The Role
As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work as part of a dedicated Early Years team, supporting children in Nursery and/or Reception. You will work closely with the class teacher to support the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, ensuring that learning experiences are engaging, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate.
You will play a key role in supporting children’s learning through structured activities and play-based learning, helping them to develop early communication, language, literacy, numeracy, and social skills. The role requires a patient, caring, and observant practitioner who understands how young children learn and who can respond effectively to individual needs.
This position is ideal for someone who is committed to early childhood development and who understands the importance of providing a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will undertake a range of responsibilities to support the effective running of the Early Years setting, including:
Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering learning activities aligned with the EYFS framework
Working with individual children and small groups to support learning and development
Supporting children’s communication and language development, including early phonics and listening skills
Encouraging the development of personal, social, and emotional skills such as confidence, independence, and cooperation
Supporting learning through play, both indoors and outdoors
Assisting with the observation, assessment, and recording of children’s progress and achievements
Helping to prepare, organise, and maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment
Supporting children during daily routines, including arrival, transitions, mealtimes, and toileting where necessary
Encouraging positive behaviour and modelling appropriate social interactions
Supporting children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo
Working collaboratively with teachers, Early Years practitioners, and other support staff
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant who is caring, reliable, and committed to supporting young children’s development. You should be enthusiastic about early years education and able to create positive relationships with children, colleagues, and families.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience working with children in an EYFS setting, such as a primary school, nursery, or early years provision

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
The ability to work effectively as part of a team
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of the children and the school
A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
A relevant qualification in childcare or early years education (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable, though not essential for candidates with strong experience and a commitment to professional development.
