Technical Clerk/Document Controller

Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater

We have an exciting opportunity for a Document Controller (Technical Clerk) on the MEH Alliance , working on the Hinkley Point C construction project . The main purpose of the role will be to use existing technical content and write non-technical content to create a library of document templates etc. and work with the Document Control team to ensure newly created documents are implemented and numbered correctly.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive documentation that meets contractual requirements and standards.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the MEHA scope to enable compilation of contract deliverables into suitable documentation to support the construction management system needs.
  • Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience and sets the MEHA up for success.
  • Develop and maintain detailed databases of appropriate reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications.
  • Develop a periodic review register to ensure all documents are maintained in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Constantly evaluate the content of documents and develop innovative approaches for improvement.
  • Research, outline, write, and edit new and existing content, working closely with various teams to understand project requirements.
  • Independently gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organise and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
  • Work with the leads to identify suitable documentation repositories to enable easy and efficient access by the team when required.
  • Work with the leads to revise and edit documents and determine the best solution for data compilation and centralised storage.
  • Research, create and maintain information architecture templates that uphold organisational standards and allow for easy access.
  • Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive message across all documentation.
  • Assist with the creation of Construction Work Packs in the Switch system.
  • Manage a team of tech clerk support staff to deliver the above.
  • Creation of RFI's/NCR's/FCR's in Switch.
Requirements:
  • An advanced level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programmes, including creation of document templates etc..
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics.
  • Previous experience of writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience of working with engineering to improve the user experience (design and user interface), to help refine content and to create visuals and diagrams for technical support content.
Please note this role does not offer any travel or subsistence allowances and so applicants must be based in the local area to be considered.

We are working across both Hinkley Point C units to deliver the infrastructure that will power the station and its operations, creating 1,000 jobs including many specialist engineers. Works include the design and installation of circa 76,000 cables totalling over 3,000km in length; over 180km of cable containment support systems; fire and environmental sealing; design and installation of earthing systems, and specialist packages associated with data acquisition and plant control.
