A prestigious international construction disputes and expert witness consultancy is seeking a Quantum Consultant / Manager to join its established Quantum division in Central London.

This senior-level opportunity lets you work alongside internationally recognised quantum experts, including professionals ranked by Who's Who Legal, on complex, high-value construction disputes and international arbitration proceedings.

The successful candidate will undertake detailed quantum analysis and contribute to the preparation of independent expert reports relating to major international construction and engineering disputes.

The consultancy advises on substantial construction and engineering projects across multiple jurisdictions, with disputes involving infrastructure, energy, real estate, offshore, oil and gas, transportation, technology and defence.

This Quantum Consultant / Manager position would be particularly attractive to:

  • Experienced Quantum Consultants and Senior Quantum Consultants already working within construction disputes, arbitration or expert witness consultancies who are seeking greater responsibility and career progression.

  • Construction Claims Consultants and commercial professionals with experience of complex contractual disputes, quantum assessments or arbitration proceedings.

  • Experienced PQS, cost consultancy, and contractor-side Quantity Surveyors or Commercial Managers with strong commercial and contractual expertise, seeking to specialise in high-value construction disputes and international arbitration.

The role offers direct exposure to internationally recognised quantum expert witnesses and the opportunity to contribute to complex arbitration proceedings involving major construction and engineering projects.

You will work closely with senior experts and Directors, undertaking detailed forensic investigations into construction costs, contractual claims and disputed financial matters.

For candidates already working within quantum consultancy or construction disputes, the position provides an opportunity to develop greater technical responsibility and progress within a respected international expert witness practice.

For experienced quantity surveying and commercial management professionals, this is an opportunity to apply established commercial and contractual expertise within the specialist field of construction dispute resolution.

The consultancy offers a collaborative, intellectually challenging working environment, excellent professional development opportunities and a long-term career path within quantum expert witness services.

Responsibilities and Duties

As a Quantum Consultant Manager, you will work within a specialist quantum expert witness team, providing detailed commercial, financial and contractual analysis in support of complex construction disputes and international arbitration proceedings.

Responsibilities will vary with the scale and complexity of individual disputes, but the position involves significant analytical work and close collaboration with experienced quantum experts.

You will be expected to take increasing responsibility for the quality, accuracy and presentation of quantum analysis and supporting expert report documentation.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking detailed forensic reviews of construction costs, quantities, valuations and financial records relating to complex construction and engineering disputes.

  • Conducting detailed quantum analysis of construction claims, including variations, changes in design, scope changes, additional costs and other disputed commercial matters.

  • Supporting leading quantum expert witnesses in preparing independent expert reports, detailed quantum assessments, and joint expert statements for formal dispute resolution proceedings.

  • Reviewing construction contracts, commercial documentation, project correspondence and contemporaneous records to identify and analyse matters relevant to contractual claims and quantum.

  • Investigating the financial consequences of disputed construction events, including changes in project scope, variations, disruption and additional expenditure.

  • Prepare and review detailed quantum calculations, supporting schedules, and analytical documentation for inclusion in expert reports.

  • Assisting with preparing expert evidence for international arbitration proceedings, including cases referred to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

  • Supporting quantum experts and senior colleagues in analysing complex disputes arising from major international infrastructure and construction projects.

  • Reviewing and interpreting contemporaneous project information to establish the factual and financial basis of disputed construction claims.

  • Contributing to the preparation of expert opinions and technical findings through detailed research, document review and commercial analysis.

  • Assisting testifying experts and legal counsel with presentations, supporting documentation, hearing materials and cross-examination preparations.

  • Liaising with solicitors, legal advisers, construction professionals and other relevant parties to obtain and assess information required for dispute investigations.

  • Working closely with Directors, quantum experts and other senior colleagues to deliver accurate and well-supported quantum analysis across multiple assignments.

  • Applying advanced quantity surveying, cost management, and construction commercial expertise to investigate and assess complex construction disputes.

  • Further developing technical expertise in construction claims, arbitration procedures, quantum expert witness work, and international construction dispute resolution.

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ideally combined with some exposure to quantum analysis, construction claims or formal dispute resolution.

We particularly welcome applications from existing Senior Quantum Consultants, Quantum Consultants, and construction disputes professionals seeking to progress their careers within a leading international expert witness consultancy.

We will also consider experienced PQS, contractor-side Quantity Surveyors, and Commercial Managers with strong analytical skills and an interest in specialising in construction arbitration and expert witness services.

The desired skills and experience include:

  • At least 6 years' relevant professional experience in quantity surveying, commercial management, construction claims, quantum consulting, or construction disputes (or equivalent)

  • Experience working for a reputable PQS consultancy, construction cost management practice, major construction contractor or specialist construction dispute resolution consultancy.

  • Strong technical knowledge of construction cost management, quantity surveying, construction contracts and commercial management.

  • Experience of complex, high-value construction or engineering projects, ideally involving significant contractual and commercial challenges.

  • Experience of quantum analysis, construction claims assessment, dispute resolution or arbitration proceedings would be highly advantageous.

  • A sound understanding of construction contracts, contractual obligations, commercial entitlements and the financial consequences of construction disputes.

  • Familiarity with standard forms of construction contract and their application to complex construction projects.

  • Experience reviewing and analysing construction costs, variations, valuations, contractual claims and supporting commercial documentation.

  • Strong numerical, analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to examine large volumes of complex financial and project information.

  • The ability to approach technical and commercial investigations methodically and produce clear, well-reasoned analytical findings.

  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly the ability to prepare detailed, accurate and professionally presented technical reports.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a thorough approach to document review, financial analysis and evidence assessment.

  • An understanding of construction dispute resolution procedures, particularly international arbitration, would be beneficial.

  • A professional, collaborative approach, with the confidence to communicate effectively with senior experts, legal advisers, and construction industry professionals.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage complex analytical tasks across multiple assignments.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • A clear interest in developing a long-term specialist career in construction disputes, quantum expert witness services and international arbitration.

Previous experience working within an expert witness consultancy or preparing quantum analysis for arbitration would be a distinct advantage. However, candidates with substantial PQS or contractor-side commercial experience who can demonstrate the required technical competence, analytical ability and interest in construction disputes are also encouraged to apply.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or another relevant construction-related discipline, or a recognised equivalent qualification.

  • An MSc or LLM in Construction Law, Construction Dispute Resolution, or a related subject is highly desirable.
