JOB DESCRIPTION

This role within the Building Standards Service at South Ayrshire Council is a specialist engineering post focused on public safety, technical assessment, and regulatory compliance , rather than the production of design work. Ideal for an experienced Civil or Structural Engineer, it offers an opportunity to apply professional judgement and technical expertise in the assessment of engineering submissions to ensuring compliance with Scottish Building Standards Regulations and relevant technical standards and legislation.

In addition to reviewing engineering submissions, the successful candidate will investigate property complaints, respond to reports of dangerous buildings, and work closely with property owners to identify and mitigate risks. Applying a balanced approach to owner engagement, regulation, and enforcement, the postholder will play a key role in mitigating risk to public safety.

REQUIREMENTS

This post is considered to be Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) (PVG) Act 2007. Accordingly, the preferred candidate will be required to become a member of the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if already a Scheme member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made.
