THE ROLE
As a Senior Contracts Manager, you will be responsible for managing both the ongoing relationships and contracts between Climate Impact Partners and Funders/Offtakers.
As well as this, you will work closely with the Carbon Project Delivery team on their delivery of implementation agreements with project partners. The role will focus on the existing projects and associated contracts that Climate Impact Partners has, and will become responsible for integrating new projects and their contracts into the roles portfolio as the Commercial team continues to onboard new deals.
You will report into the Commercial Director and work alongside Senior Commercial Managers who will be originating, designing, and structuring future deals. For these complex, structured deals, this role acts as the primary day-to-day contact for funders and corporates on contract-related matters, while Climate Impact Partners Go To Market team retains ownership of the broader corporate account relationship. The role is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who loves technical, complex contracts, and building strong relationships with our key corporate and funder customer base. Climate Impact Partners is continuing to expand its project portfolio, and this role would be at the core of this delivery, and the future scale up of this function.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of existing projects contracts:
- Management of our long-term, multi-year contracts with corporates and funders, including projects in Colombia, Philippines, Kenya, and India. This includes being accountable for ensuring contractual obligations are met, through coordination with our Carbon Project Delivery (CPD) team, and other internal teams.
- Managing these contracts as part of a portfolio of Climate Impact Partner projects and deals.
- Building strong relationships with our key funder and corporate partners, acting as the primary day-to-day contact for contract-related matters and owning external representation of contract performance.
- Deep understanding of each contract and ownership of representing the impact of project changes to both senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Any schedule tasks associate to contract management, including drafting of reports, KPI management, KYC processes, and other contract obligations.
- Supporting clients and funders in site visits, due diligence requests, and ongoing support in line with contract requirements (this could require up to 1-4 visits per annum, ~7 days at each time).
Risk and contract management:
- Owning, developing and leading on risk frameworks to follow best practise in contract management.
- Developing and building a centralised contract management system for critical projects within Climate Impact Partners that the role is responsible for.
- Driving value optimisation across contracts through pricing, delivery structures, and strategic alignment with partners.
Supporting other functions:
- Deep understanding of underlying project implementation contracts, and building strong relationships with the Carbon Project Delivery team and associated implementation partners. The role does not own project delivery but is responsible for translating delivery performance into contractual and commercial outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contract renegotiation of existing projects where required
- Providing feedback loops into new origination deals to continuous improve each new deal.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Significant experience in funder relationship management, ideally with both financial investors and corporates.
- Significant commercial contract management experience, including managing commercial negotiation of contract amendments and dispute resolution.
- Experience in carbon project experience, understanding the complexities of on the ground project delivery, and how contract delivery structures work. Preferably experience in nature-based project development.
- Strong understanding of critical key contracts with the carbon space, including implementation agreements and ERPAs
- Experience managing contracts of at least $15m ticket sizes.
- Exceptional attention to detail, both with legal documents and other associated contracts.
- Strong analytical skills, both capable of understanding and modelling financial scenarios, and building new investment grade financial models.
- Someone who loves building out systems, tools and solutions in their area to improve not only their role, but the wider organisation.
- Enjoys and thrives in building great relationships with a range of counterparties (funders, corporates, and project implementation partners).
- Is solution-focused and pragmatic.
- Has excellent project management skills and attention to detail.
- Sets high standards for ethical behaviour.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organisational skills, and follow-through.
WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THE ROLE
1) Contracts in your portfolio are delivered smoothly, with no material surprises and well-managed changes.
2) Our funder and corporate partners trust you, enjoy working with you, and choose to work with Climate Impact Partners again.
3) Contract risks are identified early and handled proactively.
4) Reporting and communication to partners is clear, timely, and aligned with contractual requirements.
5) Contract management systems and processes are stronger and more scalable because of your contribution.
6) Insights from live contracts are actively shaping how we originate and structure future deals.
