Queen Margaret University (QMU) is embarking on a significant, ambitious strategic expansion of its portfolio into Applied Informatics and Data Science. To lead the development of these new programmes, we are seeking three highly motivated, innovative, and experienced academics to join our team.
As part of a planned expansion to grow our academic portfolio and meet national demand for digital and AI-related skills, we are building a new, distinctive disciplinary area at QMU. QMU wants to position itself as a leader in the ethical, applied, and socially responsible use of data and technology, with a focus on its application in the health, education, creative, and business/hospitality sectors.
We are looking for passionate educators who are excited by the challenge of developing something new. You will play a leading role in designing and developing our new undergraduate and postgraduate provision, ensuring our programmes are efficient, scalable, and market differentiated.
Working collaboratively with colleagues from our School of Arts, Social Science and Management, and our School of Health, the first two years in the role will be focused on:
- Leading programme design and validation for a suite of undergraduate degrees for launch in Autumn 2028.
- Working with our partners, Higher Education Partners, to adapt their existing asynchronous online programmes for launch by QMU in Autumn 2027.
- Developing curricula that bridge the divide between technology and human-centric fields like health, education, hospitality, and the creative industries.
- Help establish QMU’s reputation in this growing field.
- Contribute to the development of our transnational education (TNE) portfolios by supporting transnational partner organisations to develop programmes in this new area.
We are seeking candidates who combine strong theoretical knowledge with up-to-date practical skills in applied informatics or data science. Whether your focus is on user-centred systems, predictive modelling, or data governance, you must be passionate about the practical, real-world application of technology. You should have specific expertise in relation to the use of data and technology in either the health, education, creative, or business/hospitality sectors.
All applicants must have experience in UK higher education, particularly in curriculum design, with a strong understanding of UK quality assurance processes, and strong connections to industry. You must be passionate about teaching and learning and have a positive attitude to new ways of learning, including asynchronous online provision.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the pedagogical and strategic direction of a new discipline at QMU. You will be joining an institution with a strong focus on professional practice and applied learning.
