Role Information

The Welfare Officer will provide direct support to students facing emotional, behavioural, or wellbeing challenges. Responsibilities include meeting with students individually, supporting daily check-ins, monitoring safeguarding concerns, liaising with parents, referring students to internal and external support services, documenting concerns on CPOMS (or equivalent), and contributing to the development of pastoral strategies.

The Welfare Officer plays a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning by offering practical support, emotional guidance, and consistent monitoring. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, patient, resilient, confident in dealing with sensitive issues, and highly organised. The ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain strict confidentiality is essential.

Requirements

• Experience working with young people in a welfare, pastoral, safeguarding, or mental health capacity
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and behaviour support
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
• Knowledge of CPOMS or similar safeguarding systems (desirable)
• Ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds
• Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities
• A calm, compassionate, and professional approach
• Confidence working with external agencies when appropriate
