A well-established secondary school in Bedford is seeking a confident, consistent and experienced Behaviour Manager to join its pastoral team on a full-time, permanent basis.

This is an important position for someone who understands that effective behaviour management is about more than simply responding to incidents. The successful candidate will help establish high expectations, support students in making positive choices and work closely with staff to ensure behaviour systems are applied consistently.

You will be highly visible around the school and will develop strong professional relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries. The role will involve responding to behaviour concerns, supporting staff, communicating with families and contributing to strategies designed to improve student conduct and engagement.

The successful Behaviour Manager will work closely with pastoral leaders, Heads of Year, teachers and senior staff. You will play a central role in ensuring that behaviour concerns are dealt with promptly, fairly and consistently.

Pastoral and Behaviour Team

The Behaviour Manager will provide day-to-day leadership and coordination around student behaviour. You will be expected to build positive relationships while remaining firm and consistent.

A significant part of the role will involve identifying patterns in behaviour and helping staff develop appropriate responses. You will also support individual students who require additional intervention.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day behaviour concerns across the school.

• Maintain a visible presence around the school.

• Respond promptly to incidents and student referrals.

• Apply school behaviour procedures consistently.

• Support teachers in managing challenging behaviour.

• Work with Heads of Year and pastoral leaders.

• Develop positive professional relationships with students.

• Monitor students who require additional behaviour support.

• Implement appropriate interventions.

• Track behaviour incidents and identify emerging patterns.

• Maintain accurate behaviour records.

• Provide relevant information to senior leaders.

• Communicate professionally with parents and carers.

• Support reintegration following exclusions or significant incidents where appropriate.

• Assist students in understanding the consequences of their actions.

• Encourage students to take responsibility for their behaviour.

• Support restorative approaches where appropriate.

• Help identify barriers contributing to repeated behaviour concerns.

• Work collaboratively with safeguarding and pastoral colleagues.

• Support staff with consistent implementation of behaviour expectations.

• Contribute to behaviour reviews and meetings.

• Assist with supervision around the school.

• Help promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships.

• Escalate serious concerns appropriately.

Experience and Requirements

The ideal candidate will have previous experience managing behaviour within a school or another environment involving young people.

Experience as a Behaviour Manager, Behaviour Mentor, Pastoral Manager, Inclusion Officer, Student Support Officer, Head of Year or similar would be highly advantageous.

The successful applicant will need excellent communication skills and the confidence to deal with challenging situations.
