Summary

We are seeking an Assistant Accountant looking to study level 3 AAT on an apprenticeship programme. The role is 32 hours per week at an hourly rate of £9 an hour, working Monday to Thursday with allocated college days given.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Responsibilities

Accountancy related:
- Data entry and accounts preparation post-trial balance using Excel and professional accounts software

Taxation related:
- Compilation of supporting information for VAT returns and submitting these as and when necessary
- Assisting in the completion of self-assessment tax returns for individuals using professional software
- Assisting in the completion and submission of company tax returns

Payroll related:
- Assisting in payroll submissions to HMRC using professional software
- Carrying out submissions under real time to HMRC

Company administration:
- Assisting in compliance matters of submitting details to Companies House e.g. annual confirmation statements and relevant accounts

General business administration:
- Assisting in reviewing emails and responding to emails using Outlook
- Tasks will also include drafting professional letters based upon instructions and guidance using Microsoft Word
- To review task information in Excel applications for updating and monitoring to identify deadlines etc.
- To include general filing and administration components

What you'll learn

Course contents

• Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
• Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
• Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
• Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
• Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
• Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
• Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
• Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
• Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
• Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

• English (grade 5/C)
• Maths (grade 6/B)

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:

Any (grade C or above)
