Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Location: Birmingham – Kingstanding / Perry Barr Area
Contract Type: Full-Time | Term-Time Only
Start Date: Immediate or next academic term
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Support Pupils to Thrive – SEN TA in Kingstanding / Perry Barr

Schools in Kingstanding and Perry Barr, Birmingham are seeking caring, patient, and committed Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistants (SEN TAs) to provide targeted support to pupils with a range of learning, communication, and social-emotional needs.

SEN TAs are vital to helping children achieve academically, socially, and emotionally. In this role, you will provide 1:1 and small group support , assist teachers with differentiated lessons, and help pupils develop confidence, independence, and self-regulation.

Your Role as an SEN TA

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEN

  • Supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or other learning difficulties

  • Adapting learning materials and resources to meet individual needs

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils self-regulate

  • Supporting social, emotional, and communication development

  • Observing, recording, and reporting pupil progress to teachers and SENCOs

  • Assisting pupils with transitions between activities or classrooms

  • Supporting therapy or intervention sessions

  • Helping pupils with personal care when necessary

You will be a consistent, calm, and supportive presence, helping pupils navigate academic and social challenges while fostering independence and confidence.

Experience in SEN or teaching assistance is advantageous but not essential. Many candidates come from:

  • Parenting or personal experience supporting children with SEN

Full training and mentoring will be provided to support your development in the role.
