Process Control Technician

£19.9 - £22.3 per hourEstimated

AstraZeneca seeks a Process Control Technician for its Macclesfield site to maintain and optimize instrumentation, automation, and process control systems. The role involves calibration, fault diagnosis, equipment support, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems safely and on schedule
  • Diagnose faults in PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and field devices; respond to equipment breakdowns
  • Calibrate process instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and analytical devices using approved procedures
  • Maintain engineering documentation, calibration records, and SAP notifications in compliance with data-integrity requirements
  • Support continuous improvement activities using LEAN, TPM, RCM, and root-cause analysis methodologies

Requirements

  • Recognised technical apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC or equivalent in instrumentation, control, or electrical/electronic engineering
  • Practical knowledge of process measurement, calibration methods, instrument tolerances, and loop checking
  • Experience fault-finding PLC-based control systems and field devices using logic and technical documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop drawings, and control narratives
  • Knowledge of GxP procedures and Safety, Health and Environment requirements
  • Strong communication, organisational, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Proactive approach with capacity to work independently and collaboratively
