Lead Building Control Surveyor

£49.66k - £56.81k per annum

Cheshire West and Chester Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Building Control Surveyor to join our professional and customer-focused Building Control team.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior role within a progressive Local Authority Building Control service, supporting the Building Control Manager in the delivery and development of the service. You'll play a key role in leading complex projects, providing technical expertise, mentoring colleagues and helping ensure buildings across the borough are safe and compliant.

As Lead Building Control Surveyor, you will manage a varied caseload of building regulation applications, undertake site inspections, provide expert advice to customers and stakeholders, and lead on complex and high-profile developments. You will also support technical decision-making, workload management and service improvement initiatives, helping to maintain high professional standards and excellent customer service.

•              The post has a market factor supplement of £3,300 in addition to the advertised salary

•             A registration class of 2F with the Building Safety Regulator

•             A degree in appropriate subject (Surveying / Construction) or comparable industry related qualifications.

•             Corporate membership of an appropriate professional body such as Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or Corporate Membership of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.

•             Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development.

•             Experience/knowledge of strategic planning and operational delivery of high-quality services

•             Significant experience of strategic planning and operational delivery of high-quality services

•             Proven success in developing effective working relationships, networks and partnerships with other agencies locally, regionally and nationally.

•             Detailed knowledge of Building Control and the national changes affecting the service.

•             Detailed knowledge of the Local Authority Building Control Partnership scheme

•             Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive relationships with staff and a wide range of stakeholders at all levels that generate confidence and trust

•             Ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop a team and create a culture of ownership and accountability which is performance and customer driven.

•             Have good organisational skills and the ability to deliver key tasks and functions in an efficient and timely manner

•             Understand equality, diversity and inclusion and understand how this influences service delivery

•             Excellent ICT skills

•             Follow Council Policies, Procedures and Guidance

•             Willingness and ability to attend meetings and provide cover outside normal office hours if ever required

•             Ability to travel throughout the borough

•             Access to a suitable vehicle for work and a full driver’s licence

Working closely with surveyors, developers, architects, contractors and partner authorities, you will contribute to the ongoing success of the service while supporting the professional development of colleagues. The role includes responsibility for applications received through the Council's partner authority portfolio and provides opportunities to influence the future direction of the service.

You will act as deputy to the Building Control Manager when required and participate in the Council's out-of-hours Dangerous Structures standby rota, responding to emergency situations where public safety may be at risk.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Control professional looking to progress their leadership career while remaining actively involved in technical and project-based work.
