Cheshire West and Chester Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Building Control Surveyor to join our professional and customer-focused Building Control team.
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior role within a progressive Local Authority Building Control service, supporting the Building Control Manager in the delivery and development of the service. You'll play a key role in leading complex projects, providing technical expertise, mentoring colleagues and helping ensure buildings across the borough are safe and compliant.
Cheshire West and Chester Council is a place where everyone can Thrive – through our core values of Teamwork, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Value for Money and Empowerment.
As Lead Building Control Surveyor, you will manage a varied caseload of building regulation applications, undertake site inspections, provide expert advice to customers and stakeholders, and lead on complex and high-profile developments. You will also support technical decision-making, workload management and service improvement initiatives, helping to maintain high professional standards and excellent customer service.
Working closely with surveyors, developers, architects, contractors and partner authorities, you will contribute to the ongoing success of the service while supporting the professional development of colleagues. The role includes responsibility for applications received through the Council's partner authority portfolio and provides opportunities to influence the future direction of the service.
You will act as deputy to the Building Control Manager when required and participate in the Council's out-of-hours Dangerous Structures standby rota, responding to emergency situations where public safety may be at risk.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Control professional looking to progress their leadership career while remaining actively involved in technical and project-based work.
The role offers predominantly home-based working with flexible and agile working arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance. In addition to a competitive salary, employees benefit from up to 31 days annual leave (depending on length of service), up to 16 flexi days per year, bank holidays, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of employee wellbeing and discount schemes.
