Lead Frontend Developer | React | TypeScript | Node.js
Leicester | Hybrid £63,000 - £73,000+ 10-12% Bonus | Relocation support may be available | No visa sponsorship VIQU has partnered with a leading UK retail organisation to recruit a Lead Frontend Developer to join a high-performing eCommerce engineering team. This is an opportunity to shape the technical direction of a customer-facing platform used by millions of users worldwide while remaining hands-on with modern frontend technologies. This is a technical leadership role rather than a people management position. You'll guide engineering standards, coordinate technical delivery, review code and mentor developers while continuing to contribute to the design and development of scalable frontend solutions. Key Responsibilities * Provide hands-on technical leadership across frontend development using React, TypeScript, Node.js and Material UI.
* Coordinate engineering workload and help the team deliver against the product roadmap.
* Define and maintain engineering standards covering architecture, code quality, testing, performance and accessibility.
* Lead code reviews and technical design discussions for scalable, high-performance solutions.
* Mentor and coach developers, raising technical capability across the team.
* Work closely with the Delivery Manager and key stakeholders to manage technical priorities, risks and dependencies.
* Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tooling and development practices.
* Support production systems and participate in an on-call rota during peak trading periods. Core Technologies
React; TypeScript; Node.js; Material UI; Next.js Key Requirements * Extensive commercial experience with React and TypeScript.
* Strong Node.js experience supporting high-performance, customer-facing web applications.
* Previous technical leadership experience, including setting standards, reviewing code and leading technical delivery.
* Strong understanding of frontend architecture, responsive design and UI performance optimisation.
* Experience delivering complex features whilst remaining hands-on in development.
* Ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Proven experience mentoring developers and improving engineering capability.
* Experience working on large-scale eCommerce or other high-traffic public-facing platforms is highly desirable. Desirable Experience * Next.js.
