About this opportunity
Our client is a leading automotive dealership in their market, representing a diverse portfolio of globally recognized vehicle manufacturers across passenger and commercial vehicle segments.
As the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the fiscal health and integrity of the company. You will serve as a key partner to the Managing Director and department managers to ensure long-term stability and growth.
Key responsibilities:
- Fiscal Leadership: Plan, direct, and evaluate the company's fiscal function and performance against long-term strategic goals
- Financial Reporting: Ensure the delivery of accurate monthly financial statements within established deadlines and strict adherence to any external reporting requirements
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage monthly cash flows and treasury functions to meet all operational and financial requirements
- Banking Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for the company's bank, managing the administration of accounts, overdrafts, and loan facilities
- Strategic Support: Actively participate in the development of strategic plans, providing expert evaluation and advice on the financial impact of all new initiatives
- Budgeting: Lead the annual budget preparation process in collaboration with department managers and provide ongoing oversight throughout the fiscal year
- Financial Analysis: Provide detailed analysis of budgets, trends, and financial reports to assist leadership in decision-making and performance management
- Policy & Compliance: Enhance and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect company assets and improve operational effectiveness
- Operational Efficiency: Collaborate with Department Managers to optimise inventory levels, working capital, and labour productivity, while identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Growth & Acquisitions: Provide financial modelling and analysis for potential acquisitions or the implementation of new business units
- Team Management: Lead and develop the accounting staff, ensuring high performance, skill optimisation, and appropriate staffing levels
- Contract Management: Maintain and review up-to-date supplier and third-party contracts, ensuring adherence to key financial terms
- Audit Coordination: Prepare comprehensive audit files and manage the relationship with external auditors to produce annual audited financial statements
- System Oversight: Manage and maintain the company's accounting systems and computer systems to ensure data integrity and operational efficiency
- Compliance: Overseeing the Company's adherence to all laws and regulations, including acting as AML/ATF Officer
What you’ll need
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, or equivalent) is required, supported by at least 5 years of post-qualification experience
- Experience with acting as an AML/ATF Officer, with a solid understanding of local regulatory requirements
- Proficiency in advanced accounting software and Microsoft Excel, experience with DMS environments is preferred
- Strong financial modelling, analytical, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
- Proven experience in a senior, 'hands-on' finance role. Background in the automotive or retail sectors is a plus
- The ability to move seamlessly between high-level strategic planning and day-to-day operational tasks
- Comfortable delivering financial insights and clear communication to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders
- An understanding of inventory management and valuation is an asset
- Previous experience managing or overseeing payroll functions is an advantage
