Salary: £40,501 - £47,639 (pro-rata for part time)
Hours: 7.42 hours (1 day per week)

We are looking to appoint an appropriately skilled individual to the post of Supervising School Counsellor in Edinburgh Schools. This is part of our exciting citywide initiative to provide counselling to pupils through all of our secondary schools. The post holder will be providing supervision to our school counsellors.

Clinical supervisors play a key role in supporting counsellors to provide the highest quality of clinical practice to children and young people and ensure that ethical framework principles, values and good practice are integrated within the counsellors' clinical practice. The Supervising School Counsellor will have a caseload of school counsellors that they will provide clinical supervision for. The Supervising School Counsellor will have no counselling provision in an allocated schools or learning community at this time, but can be expected to provide additional support for the counsellors they supervise or to these schools.

The successful candidate will be line managed by the Team Leader for the School Counselling Service and will be play a key role as part of the Supervising School Counsellor provision to ensure appropriate levels of support and supervision are delivered and to work within the citywide strategy for counsellors in schools. They will work with supervisees at different levels of experience and competence as well as with an allocated secondary school and its associated primary schools to oversee the effective delivery of counselling services to 10 to 18 year olds within the learning community. School Counsellors are part of the wider pupil support team and will support the child planning process within the national GIRFEC framework. They are integrated into the whole school approach to emotional health and wellbeing and work in partnership with the wider school team and other key partners.

Supervising Counsellors work with the schools, the supervisees and the team leader to agree and provide appropriate levels of counselling and supervision contact during school holidays.

Successful candidates will be fully qualified counsellors and supervisors and registered with an appropriate organisation such as COSCA or the BACP.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
