Learning Support Assistant, Year 6

£14.25 - £14.9 per hour

Some roles are about supporting learning. This one is about changing a child’s final chapter at primary school.

We’re working with a welcoming primary school in the BS11 area looking for a calm, resilient Learning Support Assistant to join their Year 6 team for Term 6. You’ll be supporting one pupil on a 1:1 basis as they prepare for their transition into a specialist setting in September.

This role needs someone who can be a steady hand when things feel a little wobbly. Someone who can set clear boundaries, stay calm under pressure, and come back each day ready with a fresh start.

You’ll be the person helping a child feel safe, understood, and supported through an important stage of their journey.

What your days could look like:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil
• Building trust and positive routines
• Supporting emotional wellbeing and helping regulate challenging moments
• Using a firm but fair approach to maintain boundaries
• Working closely with school staff to create consistency and stability

This role could be a great fit if you:

✔ Have experience supporting children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
✔ Understand that behaviour is communication
✔ Stay calm and objective in difficult situations
✔ Can build relationships while maintaining clear expectations
✔ Have a good sense of humour, because some days call for one

The pupil may use challenging language and push boundaries. The school understands this isn't easy and they're looking for someone who can see beyond the behaviour and focus on the child behind it.

Why this school?

You won’t be left figuring things out on your own. The leadership team are hands-on, supportive, and right there alongside staff. Think less “sink or swim”, more “we’re all in this together”.

What you'll need:

• Experience working with SEMH or behaviour support
• Availability Monday to Friday throughout Term 6
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
• A positive, practical approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves

Why work with Protocol Education?

If you're someone who can stay calm in the storm and be the person a child can rely on, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and let's find you a role that really matters.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
