Aquarium Assistant

Do you have a passion for marine life, excellent customer service skills and enjoy working with people of all ages? We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Aquarium Assistant to join our team at Macduff Aquarium.

This varied and rewarding role combines visitor engagement, animal care, retail duties and educational support. You will play a key role in creating memorable experiences for our visitors while helping to maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and aquarium operations

The role includes welcoming visitors, processing admissions and retail sales, providing information on exhibits and marine life, supporting school groups, assisting with animal husbandry and exhibit care, and helping to ensure the safety of visitors.

The successful candidate will have a good general education including Biology (or equivalent), experience working with the public in a customer-facing environment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a friendly, adaptable approach. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential. SCUBA diving qualifications, retail experience, and knowledge of marine life are advantageous.

There are two vacancies for this post as the aquarium reopens following its exciting refurbishment and upgrade and to support the team in the busy first year. Working 25 hours per week on a flexible, annualised-hours basis, one post is fixed term until 31st December 2026 and the other fixed term until 31st October 2027. Both posts require flexibility to work a seasonal pattern including weekends, public holidays and busy visitor periods.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.
