Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist - Respiratory/Sleep

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well motivated individual to work within the Respiratory and Sleep physiology team at NorthManchester General Hospital and associated Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Harpurhey, part of the Manchester University NHSFoundation Trust. This is a rapidly growing service and we require an individual with the drive and ambition to move the service forward within the evolving field of respiratory and sleep medicine, providing high standards of patient care in keeping with trust values.

Main duties of the job
Working as an effective team member, taking responsibility for planning, implementing and evaluating the day-to-day care provided to patients. Assist the service manager to ensure all areas of the service are covered. Provide and perform, complex specialist and advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the two disciplines of Clinical Respiratory and Clinical Sleep Physiology, to patients of all ages, from a range of specialties, which are essentially cardio-thoracic in nature. Teaching, training and mentoring of students and junior staff. Working between North Manchester General Hospital and Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) on a rostered basis.

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS : Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS : Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications
Essential

• BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent
• Professional knowledge in Respiratory/Sleep supplemented by post graduate specialist training to MSc level or equivalent
• ARTP courses or equivalent
• AHCS or HCPC registration

Desirable

• MSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent.
• Leadership Management qualification.

Experience
Essential

• Substantial experience post registration working at a senior level in a Respiratory /Sleep department.
• Perform and interpret a wide range of complex respiratory and sleep physiology diagnostic investigations
• Competent at CPAP issue and after care with patients.
• Broad experience with staff supervision, rota planning and HR.
• Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Teaching, training and assessing experience.

Desirable

• Experience with full video polysomnograph
• Financial knowledge and budget management.

Skills
Essential

• Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives and carers whose cognisance may be limited and where there are barriers to understanding.
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements.
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
