About the role

At Halfords, we’re on a journey to make data a truly trusted, valuable asset across the business-and we’re looking for a Senior Enterprise Data Management Lead to help lead that transformation. In this role, you’ll shape and embed practical governance frameworks that improve how data is managed, ensuring it is consistent, reliable and safe to use. You’ll work closely with data owners and stakeholders across the organisation to reduce risk, strengthen accountability, and build the foundations for better, more confident decision-making powered by high-quality data.

This is a high-impact role in a growing data function, offering broad exposure across the business and the opportunity to influence meaningful change. You’ll lead initiatives such as Master Data Management, maturity improvement and governance adoption, while championing data literacy, ethical practices and responsible data use. Combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, you’ll translate complex governance challenges into clear, actionable plans-embedding the right controls, behaviours and capabilities to ensure data works effectively for our customers, colleagues and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of data governance frameworks and standards that keep data consistent, reliable and fit for purpose across its lifecycle.
• Drive clarity of ownership by partnering with data owners to define RACI, enabling confident decisions on data quality, access and change.
• Build and elevate data management practices across the business, including data quality, metadata, modelling, master data and standards.
• Own the delivery of Master Data Management (MDM), aligning business and technical teams to improve the consistency, control and reuse of critical data.
• Proactively identify and manage data risks, coordinating resolution with stakeholders and ensuring issues are tracked, governed and escalated where needed.
• Champion continuous improvement by assessing data maturity, embedding best practices, and clearly communicating progress and opportunities.
• Advocate for ethical, privacy-aware data use, ensuring governance frameworks support compliant and responsible decision-making.
• Influence and inspire through clear storytelling-turning complex governance topics into compelling messages that drive engagement and action.

About you

• Proven ability to lead and evolve data governance and management practices, driving adoption of standards, controls and best practice across an organisation.
• Strong track record in defining data standards, monitoring compliance, and using evidence to resolve issues in a pragmatic, business-focused way.
• Influential stakeholder leader - skilled in building relationships, aligning priorities, and driving change across both senior and cross-functional teams.
• Confident communicator who can distil complex data topics into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making at all levels.
• Experienced in embedding data-driven culture and literacy, enabling teams to understand, trust and use data effectively.
• Strategic and outcome-focused, able to balance risk, value and practicality while leading through ambiguity and delivering high-impact governance improvements.
