About us
Halfords is on a journey - building the future of motoring and cycling and looking for people who want to help shape what comes next. We’re a place for co‑creators: people who want to make a real impact, take ownership and be part of something that’s still evolving.
As the UK’s leading retailer of motoring and cycling products, we’re supported by one of the country’s largest independent vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair networks through Halfords Autocentres. This breadth gives us a strong, stable foundation - and the freedom to keep innovating and growing.
That means real variety for our colleagues, along with the opportunity to learn, stretch and develop as the business moves forward. Whatever your role, you’ll be part of a team focused on delivering exceptional service - using your expertise to solve problems, guide customers and help keep the nation moving with confidence.
About the role
As a Health & Safety Business Partner (Logistics), you will play a key role in creating and maintaining a strong health and safety culture across multiple sites. Working closely with managers and colleagues, you will help drive positive behaviours, support safer ways of working, and encourage teams to take ownership of health and safety in their day-to-day roles.
You'll build strong relationships across Halfords Logistics and the wider business, providing expert support and guidance to ensure health and safety standards are consistently met. By monitoring performance and reviewing the effectiveness of safety processes, you'll identify opportunities for improvement and help embed best practice across our operations.
This is a highly collaborative and influential role, where you'll challenge and support leaders to remain focused on key business risks while driving continuous improvement. If you're passionate about making a real difference, influencing positive change, and creating safer workplaces, we'd love to hear from you.
Working pattern: 2 days at our Washford Distribution Centre, 2 days at our Coventry Distribution Centre, and 1 day at either location, depending on business needs. Occasional home working may be available.
Key responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of health and safety strategies, policies, standards, and procedures across the Halfords Group.
- Play an active role in delivering the Halfords Group Health & Safety Roadmap, driving compliance, best practice, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct audits, workplace inspections, visible safety leadership activities, gap analyses, and management reviews to identify risks, monitor performance, and ensure high standards of health and safety across our logistics operations.
- Produce clear reports and recommendations, leading and supporting corrective action programmes to drive sustainable safety improvements.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures to reduce future risk.
- Provide expert health and safety advice, guidance, and support to colleagues, managers, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring concerns are addressed appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Design, develop, and deliver health and safety training, guidance, risk assessments, and safe working procedures, ensuring materials remain accurate, compliant, and fit for purpose.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Directors, Managers, Trade Union representatives, contractors, regulatory bodies, and enforcement agencies, promoting a positive and proactive safety culture.
- Promote and share health and safety best practice across the Group while supporting matters relating to Employer's Liability and Public Liability where required.
- Support departmental and business-wide projects, always representing Halfords in a professional and positive manner.
About you
- An experienced Health & Safety Advisor, Coordinator, or similar role, with experience working across multiple sites and business functions.
- You hold a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification (NVQ Level 5).
- You have a proven track record of promoting a positive health and safety culture, with excellent working knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
- You have experience undertaking site audits and inspections and can confidently identify, prioritise, and mitigate risk.
- You are confident influencing, persuading, and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders at management level, building effective relationships and communicating clearly with a range of audiences.
- You are highly organised, with strong planning skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience in behavioural-based safety, regulatory inspections, certification audits, Fire Risk Assessments, Manual Handling, and claims defensibility would be advantageous.
Reward & benefits
- A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
- Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
- You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords suite of products and services.
- Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.
Not sure you meet all the criteria? We'd encourage you to take the wheel and apply anyway! At Halfords we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for our colleagues. We're an equal opportunities employer and proud to welcome applications from all backgrounds and embrace diversity within our one Halfords Family.
