We are seeking a caring and committed 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school, supporting a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Role

As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (ASD Support), you will:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil within the classroom and during wider school activities.
  • Help develop communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation skills.
  • Implement individual support plans and targeted interventions.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENDCo, parents, and external professionals.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in learning.
  • Use structured routines and ASD-friendly approaches to create a calm and supportive learning environment.
  • Promote positive behaviour through relationship-based strategies and consistent support.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews of the pupil’s development and achievements.

  • Have experience working 1:1 with children or young people with ASD.
  • Have a good understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and associated communication needs.
  • Are patient, nurturing, and passionate about supporting children with SEND.
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Can support pupils with social, emotional, and sensory needs.
  • Are committed to inclusion and helping every child reach their full potential.
  • Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
