Lifelong Learning Library Adviser - Mobile Library Team - 15729_1784295342

Library Adviser -Mobile Library Team - fixed term until 31/12/2026
Mobile Library Service (Based at Oxgangs Library)

Salary: £27,257 - £29.850
Hours: 36 per week

Monday to Friday only but will require some evening working

Direct Services/ Mobile Library Team is based at Oxgangs Library. The Mobile Library team deliver library services out with library locations e.g. to schools, customers' homes, care homes and Assisted Living Accommodation, postholders must be able to work in a variety of non-library environments and support customers with additional needs.

This role involves a degree of continual manual handing of boxes and trolley's where we take boxes and trolleys of books into schools and Care Homes, loading theses on and off vehicles. We do this in all weather conditions - appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will be supplied. The job also involves being able to work at low heights and climbing in and out of vehicle cabs.

A Full Driving Licence is required: The successful candidate will be required to drive the smaller Mobile Library Vehicles - up to 3.5 tonne.

Our libraries are at the heart of their communities. Members of staff work with their community to help create a thriving place to live and to help reduce poverty and inequality. We support users to develop their digital skills, and we help them get the information and advice they need. Our staff encourage babies and children to develop their language and reading ability through programmes like Bookbug and Read, Write Count. We help those of all ages in the community who struggle with loneliness by providing them with a place to meet and connect. We provide a full range of books and other resources to help everyone to live, learn and work.

Young people are regular users of libraries and can range from structured activity to simply meeting up with friends. It is vital that our staff have a broad understanding of the issues faced by young people and that individually or as part of the team, you are willing to engage with and support young people and maintain a positive, safe and trusted environment. Any youth engagement experience will be welcomed.

To be a successful member of our team you must be able to show that you can deliver excellent customer service and that you can understand the needs of different parts of the community.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
