Pay Rate: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time/ Part-time, Day-to-day/ Long-term

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are recruiting resilient and understanding SEMH Teaching Assistants for vibrant schools in Rotherham . We are seeking individuals who can form positive relationships with students, recognise emotional and behavioural barriers, and provide structured support that enables young people to participate more successfully in education.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant will work with learners who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, providing targeted academic and emotional assistance while encouraging greater confidence, self-regulation, and independence.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

* Build trusting relationships with young people who require additional emotional support
* Recognise signs of anxiety, frustration, or disengagement and respond appropriately
* Facilitate targeted activities that develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
* Reinforce consistent routines and expectations to create a sense of stability
* Track changes in behaviour, wellbeing, and classroom engagement
* Coordinate with teachers, pastoral teams, and specialist staff on individual support approaches

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

* Understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and their effect on education
* Experience working with children or young people with behavioural or emotional needs
* Confidence using calm and constructive approaches during challenging situations
* Capacity to develop rapport while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
* Strong observation and communication skills with a patient, resilient manner
* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
