The Opportunity
Based within the Economy Directorate and reporting to the Head of Strategy, Policy and Planning, this role will drive innovation, creative thinking and alternative ways of delivering on these outcomes. The role will make a significant contribution to the formulation, development, promotion and implementation of a range of policies, strategies, projects and initiatives.
The postholder will operate in a fast-paced, outward-facing and politically sensitive environment, where priorities span policing, fire, health, growth and public service reform, and where the ability to respond quickly while maintaining high-quality output is critical.
Operating at the political and strategic heart of the Combined Authority, the role will translate Mayoral priorities into credible, evidence-based policy, high-quality advice and deliverable system change, while leading a small team of policy officers and coordinating activity across the organisation.
The role will lead on policy across the wider determinants of health, shaping interventions that address rurality, coastal disadvantage, economic inactivity and access to services. The postholder will drive a “health in all policies” approach, shaping regional strategy across transport, housing, skills, communities and economic growth, and ensuring York and North Yorkshire’s voice is influential locally, regionally and nationally.
What you will bring
· Strong understanding of:
· health inequalities, prevention and public health
· NHS systems and integrated care
· wider determinants of health in rural and mixed economies
· High levels of political awareness, judgement, discretion and resilience.
· Good understanding and awareness of role of Mayoral Combined authorities.
· Strong knowledge of effective policy development and political communication.
