Assistant Team Manager – Mental Health Services

Portman Recruitment is working with a well-established local authority to recruit an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join a busy and supportive Mental Health Service in the North Manchester area.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Social Worker looking to take the next step into management, or an existing Assistant Team Manager seeking a new challenge.
The Role
Working alongside the Service Unit Manager and Team Manager, you will support the day-to-day leadership of a dedicated Mental Health team, ensuring high-quality, person-centred services are delivered in line with current legislation and best practice.
You'll play a key role in supervising staff, improving service delivery, managing complex cases and supporting the ongoing development of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Team Manager with the day-to-day running of the service.
- Supervise and develop Social Workers and other team members.
- Provide management oversight on complex Mental Health cases.
- Ensure compliance with the Care Act, Mental Health legislation and local authority procedures.
- Drive service improvements through performance monitoring and quality assurance.
- Promote effective partnership working with health and social care professionals.
- Support workforce development and continuous improvement.
About You
To be considered, you'll need:
- Qualified Social Worker (Degree in Social Work).
- Social Work England registration.
- Significant experience within Adult Mental Health Services.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Mental Health legislation
- The Care Act
- Mental Capacity Act / DoLS
- Funding processes
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
- Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: up to £50,269
- Full-time permanent position.
- Monday to Friday working pattern:
- Monday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Tuesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Wednesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
- Hybrid working (typically one day working from home each week, subject to service needs).
- Regular management supervision and peer support.
- Joint training opportunities with specialist Mental Health services.
- Annual leave of up to 31 days , plus Bank Holidays, depending on length of service.
AMHP Opportunity
If you are an approved AMHP , you'll receive an additional £82 per AMHP shift , typically completing 25–30 shifts per year .
Candidates who are not currently AMHP qualified will also be supported to undertake the training in the future.
