Sen Teacher

£600 - £1,300 per week
Part-time
Part-Time SEN Teacher - Specialist School
Location: Nottingham
Pay: Paid to scale
Hours: Part-time - Mondays and Tuesdays
Contract: Supply / Ongoing Cover Opportunity

Please note: Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

About The Role
Connex Education are recruiting for a dedicated, enthusiastic and adaptable Part-Time SEN Teacher to work within a specialist school in Nottingham. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher seeking a regular two-day-a-week teaching role within a supportive specialist setting.

Working on Mondays and Tuesdays, you will provide teaching cover across four classes, typically supporting one class for either a morning or an afternoon. The classes cater for pupils with a range of additional needs, following personalised curriculum pathways designed to support communication, engagement, independence and individual progress.

Three of the classes follow an informal curriculum, with a strong emphasis on personalised learning, practical activities, continuous provision, sensory experiences and individual targets. The fourth class follows a more structured timetable, incorporating formal lessons alongside opportunities for play, exploration, communication and sensory regulation.

You will need to be responsive to pupils' individual communication, sensory and regulation needs, adapting your teaching approaches and expectations to ensure learning is accessible and meaningful. Working collaboratively with experienced support staff, you will help create a calm, engaging and inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel safe, supported and encouraged to develop.

Preparation for adulthood is also an important aspect of the curriculum, particularly within some of the classes. Learning may focus on independence and self-help skills, communication, community access, relationships, healthy living, functional literacy and numeracy, and developing skills for future adult life.

This role would suit a teacher who is passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs, enjoys a hands-on and personalised approach to teaching, and is confident adapting to the changing needs of a specialist classroom.

Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply. However, please note that this supply placement cannot provide formally signed-off experience towards the completion of ECT Year 1 or Year 2.

About The School
Our partner is a specialist school in Nottingham that supports pupils with a range of complex additional needs through personalised learning and carefully structured curriculum pathways.

The school places a strong emphasis on understanding each pupil as an individual, recognising that communication, engagement, sensory regulation and behaviour can all influence how pupils access learning. Teaching approaches are adapted to meet individual needs, with an emphasis on building positive relationships, developing independence and celebrating progress.

Across the school, pupils access a combination of structured teaching, practical learning, continuous provision and sensory-based activities, depending on their individual pathway. Preparation for adulthood is also an important focus, helping pupils develop the communication, independence and functional skills they will need beyond school.

You will work alongside experienced teaching assistants and other members of staff who understand the pupils' individual needs and communication approaches. A collaborative and flexible approach is essential, as you will be supporting different classes and adapting to their routines, learning objectives and levels of structure.

The school is looking for teachers who are enthusiastic about specialist education and willing to learn, engage and develop their understanding of autism-informed practice and individualised teaching approaches.

Person Specification
To be considered for this role, candidates must have or be able to demonstrate:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* A genuine interest in supporting pupils with special educational needs.
* A calm, warm and approachable manner, with the confidence to lead a classroom without overwhelming pupils.
* The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and engage them actively in learning.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with experienced support staff.
* Flexibility to adapt lessons, activities and expectations to meet a wide range of individual needs.
* An understanding that behaviour can be a form of communication and a willingness to respond with patience and empathy.
* A willingness to learn about individual communication systems, sensory needs and autism-informed approaches.
* The ability to remain composed, resilient and adaptable within a busy specialist-school environment.
* An interest in personalised learning, practical activities, sensory experiences and developing pupils' independence.
* An understanding of the importance of functional skills and preparation for adulthood.
* A positive attitude towards feedback, collaboration and developing specialist teaching skills.
* A full enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
* Availability to work on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Previous experience within an SEN or specialist school setting would be beneficial but is not essential. We welcome applications from teachers who demonstrate enthusiasm, resilience, appropriate classroom confidence and a genuine willingness to learn.

Please note that this placement cannot provide formally signed-off experience towards ECT Year 1 or Year 2.
