Luma Education Recruitment is looking for a compassionate and resilient Education Support Worker to support young people within a specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon .

You will work closely with pupils who may have experienced complex trauma, emotional difficulties and behavioural challenges , providing consistent support, encouragement and positive role modelling.
The role offers temporary-to-permanent opportunities for the right person and would suit someone who is empathetic, responsible and confident working with a good level of independence.
The RoleAs an Education Support Worker , you will provide a combination of educational, pastoral and emotional support. You'll help pupils engage with their learning, develop essential life skills and manage the challenges they may face.
You will need to be comfortable taking responsibility, using your own initiative and adapting your approach to the needs of individual pupils.
Key Responsibilities- Provide consistent mentoring, encouragement and emotional support to pupils.
- Support young people with complex trauma, emotional needs and behavioural challenges.
- Help pupils engage with their education and complete classroom-based activities.
- Build trusting and positive relationships with individual pupils.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, resilience and independence.
- Support pupils with their social and emotional development.
- Follow individual support plans and work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals.
- Recognise and appropriately report safeguarding, welfare or behavioural concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, behaviour and support provided.
- Accompany pupils to occasional off-site meetings, appointments or activities where required.
- Work proactively and use your own initiative to respond to individual pupil needs.
This role would suit someone who is empathetic, patient and confident , with a genuine interest in helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
You don't necessarily need previous experience in a specialist education setting. We are particularly interested in people who demonstrate the right attitude, resilience and ability to build positive relationships .
Essential Requirements- A genuine interest in supporting young people.
- Empathetic, patient and approachable nature.
- Ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for your work.
- Confidence using your own initiative and adapting to different situations.
- Reliable and committed approach.
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle - essential due to the location and occasional travel with pupils.
- Enhanced DBS clearance, or willingness to obtain one, prior to starting.
- Teaching Assistant, Education, Youth Work or Health & Social Care qualification.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people.
- Experience working with SEND, SEMH, trauma or behavioural needs.
- Experience in education, care, residential support or a similar setting.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided , so relevant qualifications are desirable rather than essential.
What We Offer- £100-£125 per day , depending on experience.
