As a leading UK brain injury charity, Brainkind offers a unique opportunity to work as part of our Brain Injury Linkworker (BIL) team, supporting individuals within the criminal justice system who have a history of acquired brain injury.

You'll work independently on-site, supported through regular remote supervision from experienced Clinical Psychologists and Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologists, making this an excellent opportunity for someone aspiring to progress within Clinical Psychology or Neuropsychology.

Our Brain Injury Linkworkers help identify these needs and provide person-centred support to help individuals better understand and manage the effects of their brain injury.

You'll work with individuals who may have:

• Acquired or traumatic brain injury
• Cognitive difficulties
• Emotional and psychological difficulties
• Behavioural difficulties associated with brain injury
• Complex needs within the criminal justice system

You'll also work alongside professionals across Prison, Probation, Healthcare, Social Care and Community Services, helping to improve understanding of brain injury and support better outcomes.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring Clinical Psychologist to develop practical experience across clinical assessment, formulation, intervention, research and service evaluation.

You will:

• Support a varied caseload of individuals within the criminal justice system who screen positive for, or have a history of, brain injury.
• Complete the Brain Injury Screening Index (BISI) and undertake assessments of individual needs.
• Develop person-centred intervention and moving-on/release plans.
• Develop psychological formulations using information from assessments and other sources.
• Deliver 1:1 psychological interventions focused on the consequences of brain injury.
• Support neuropsychological and psychometric assessments under appropriate supervision.
• Provide information and raise awareness of brain injury among service users and professionals.
• Liaise with Prison, Probation, Healthcare and community-based services.
• Contribute to risk assessment, case management and multidisciplinary working.
• Collect and analyse outcome data and contribute to service evaluation and research.
• Produce case studies, reports and other written clinical documentation.
• Contribute to training for professionals working across the criminal justice system.

About You

You May Be:

• An Assistant Psychologist looking to gain valuable clinical experience.
• An aspiring Clinical Psychologist preparing for further postgraduate training.
• A psychology graduate with relevant experience supporting people with complex needs.
• Someone with a strong interest in brain injury, neuropsychology and rehabilitation.

Experience of brain injury, neuropsychology, rehabilitation, mental health or the criminal justice system would be advantageous.
