SEND Teaching Assistant – Young Adults with Complex Needs

Location:
Northfield, Birmingham
Pay: £100–£125 per day (depending on experience)
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday (Term Time)
Start Date: September 2026
Smile Education is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate  SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and well-established specialist college in Northfield, Birmingham.

This full-time role offers the opportunity to support young adults aged 19–25 with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex learning needs as they develop communication, independence and essential life skills in a nurturing and inclusive environment. You'll be joining a well-established specialist further education college that is dedicated to supporting young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs.

The college provides a personalised, student-centred curriculum that focuses on communication, independence, community inclusion and preparing students for adulthood. Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, you'll help create meaningful learning experiences that build confidence, encourage independence and celebrate every achievement—no matter how big or small.

This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a supportive environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential and staff work together to make a lasting difference every day.

The Role
  • Support students with their learning, communication and personal development.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to deliver engaging, tailored learning activities.
  • Adapt resources and classroom activities to meet individual learning needs.
  • Encourage confidence, independence and participation in all aspects of college life.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • Help maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
We're looking for someone who is:
  • Caring, patient and compassionate.
  • Passionate about supporting young adults with additional needs.
  • A confident communicator and team player.
  • Reliable, adaptable and enthusiastic.
  • Committed to helping students reach their full potential.
Experience working with SEND, PMLD, autism, learning disabilities or complex needs is desirable but not essential.
We also welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:
  • Education
  • Care and support work
  • Healthcare
  • Residential care
  • Youth work
  • Mental health support
Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

If you're passionate about supporting young adults with SEND and want a role where you can make a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today with Smile Education to be considered for this rewarding September opportunity.

We are committed to safeguarding children. Each applicant will be expected to undertake compliance checks including Prohibited list, Barred list, DBS and Qualifications.
