St. Andrews S107 is situated on a large, green campus located next to Bearing BTS station in Bangkok. The school caters for the Nursery to Year 13 age range and has approximately 650 students for over 40 different nationalities. We are part of the St. Andrews group in Thailand.

St. Andrews S107’s curriculum is based on the best of the English National Curriculum with context relevant international programmes and approaches. In Primary, our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and embraces the learner-centred and enquiry-based principles of the IB Primary Years Programme.

In Secondary, St. Andrews S107 uses the English National Curriculum, leading to IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme. We also offer pathways such as BTECs and the IBCP for those who would benefit.

The school now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced School Counsellor to join our fantastic team. 

About the role 
The school counsellor will work closely with our pastoral teams, SENCO and Safeguarding Lead to provide the best possible support for our students and families to provide social-emotional support to students, support our non-selective and diverse student population and promote wellbeing and mental health within our community.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 interventions and group counselling services for students

• Maintain a network of counselling professionals in Bangkok to assist in external referrals

• Provide consultation and guidance where a safeguarding issue or other such issues arise

• Provide guidance to teaching staff, enabling them to better identify and support students with emotional and wellbeing challenges

• Establish, maintain and monitor appropriate records and provide updates on trends and data to enhance the counselling service

• Actively work with other school counsellors to ensure effective school counselling provision

• Attend regular clinical supervision and participate in CPD

• Maintain ethical practice in line with your counselling accreditation requirements

Additional Duties

• Participate in preventative measures for the betterment of student wellbeing and understanding of mental health, such as offering insights for PSHE

• Teaching some PSHE content where appropriate

• Contribute to the whole school strategic planning for wellbeing

• Planning and delivering workshops for school staff in coordination with pastoral teams/ DSL

• Running extra curricular activities for students (or after school counselling appointments)

• Hold regular wellbeing workshops for parents to enhance parental education

Safeguarding:

• Work collaboratively with the DSL to discuss safeguarding-related cases

• Ensure safeguarding files are updated regularly with non-confidential counselling information

• Confidence in conducting suicide risk assessments (eg Lighthouse Screening or ASIST training)

We are looking for a team member with the following

• Registered or accredited to practice under a counselling/psychotherapy body such as BACP, ACA or APA

• Holds qualifications in counselling, psychotherapy or counselling psychology which includes the completion of 100 counselling hours

• Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience

• Experience in child and adolescent counselling

• Experience of counselling within a school environment is beneficial but not essential

• Ability to stay calm during challenging conversations and/or circumstances

• In depth knowledge of ethical counselling practice

• Understanding of third-culture issues and challenges faced by students in international schools

• Deliver workshops and present at school assemblies

• Understanding of therapeutic approaches such as CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy

• Able to collaborate with colleagues in different departments

• From 7.30 am to 4.00 pm, 5 days per week

• Teachers are required to be involved in school functions, meetings, events and professional development days as necessary, both within and outside of school hours
