Main purpose
The Music Graduate Assistant will support the music department in all aspects of its work, including administration and performance. The role involves assisting with the day-to-day running of the department, providing piano accompaniment for student performances, and supporting a vibrant and inclusive musical environment within the school.
Duties and responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the music department, including organising music resources, managing schedules, and assisting with communications
Assist in the delivery and organisation of music lessons, rehearsals, and concerts
Accompany students on the piano during rehearsals, performances, and examinations as required
Support the coordination and running of school musical events and assemblies
Help to maintain and organise musical instruments and equipment
Work collaboratively with staff, including peripatetic music teachers, to ensure smooth running of the department
Assist with supervision of pupils during music-related activities
Contribute to the wider life of the school as required
Person Specification
Qualifications and training
Music degree or equivalent qualification (completed or nearing completion)
Evidence of ongoing professional development in music performance or education
Experience
Experience in performing as a pianist, including accompaniment
Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable)
Experience in an administrative role (desirable)
Skills and knowledge
Excellent piano performance and sight-reading skills
Good organisational and time management abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Proficient IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, email, basic music technology)
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Personal qualities
Enthusiastic and passionate about music and music education
Reliable, flexible, and proactive
Approachable and supportive manner with pupils and staff
Commitment to upholding the ethos and values of the school
