Female Outreach Domestic Abuse Practitioner

Location: Coventry
Salary: £26,423 per annum
Hours: Full Time - Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm
Working Pattern: Office Based

About the Role

We are recruiting for a compassionate and experienced Female Outreach Domestic Abuse Practitioner to join a specialist domestic abuse service in Coventry.

This is an important frontline role supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse . You will provide specialist one-to-one support, helping victims/survivors improve their safety, understand their options, access appropriate services and regain greater control over their lives.

Due to the nature of the service and the needs of the women accessing support, being female is an occupational requirement for this role under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support to women affected by domestic abuse.
• Complete risk and needs assessments and develop appropriate safety plans.
• Develop and review individual support plans.
• Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns involving children and vulnerable adults.
• Provide advice and advocacy around housing, homelessness, welfare benefits, legal matters and other social welfare issues.
• Support women to make informed choices and access appropriate services.
• Make referrals to statutory, voluntary and specialist agencies.
• Work collaboratively with external professionals and community organisations.
• Maintain accurate, confidential and professional case records.
• Contribute to outreach, group work and awareness activities where required.

About You

We are looking for someone with relevant experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse or other complex circumstances .

You should have:

• Experience supporting victims/survivors of domestic abuse.
• Experience providing practical and emotional support to vulnerable women and/or children.
• Good knowledge of safeguarding and the ability to recognise and respond to risk.
• Experience of risk assessment, safety planning and support planning.
• Strong advocacy, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working with external agencies and making appropriate referrals.
• The ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good organisational, IT and case-recording skills.

Knowledge or experience of Forced Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Honour-Based Abuse (HBA), No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), trafficking, housing and homelessness would be advantageous.

Additional Language Skills

The service supports women and families from a diverse range of communities. Therefore, the ability to speak an additional relevant community language would be highly desirable .

Languages of particular relevance include Urdu, Hindi, Mirpuri, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Farsi, Pashto, Somali and other relevant African/community languages .

Essential Requirements

• Female - occupational requirement for this role.
• Full driving licence.
• Access to a vehicle with appropriate business insurance.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to undertake one.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and supporting vulnerable people.

Specialist domestic abuse training can be provided where required, but applicants must be willing to undertake relevant training.
