Conveyancing Team Manager

£50k - £65k per annum

The Conveyancing Team Manager will lead a busy residential property team within a Top 200 law firm, overseeing casework, workflow and team development while maintaining excellent standards of client care and regulatory compliance. The post suits an experienced conveyancer or qualified solicitor with strong technical knowledge, proven people management skills and a commitment to continuous improvement and efficient service delivery.

Salary: £50,000–£65,000 (dependent on experience)

Hybrid working

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of conveyancers and support staff (around 4 to 5), including recruitment, performance management, supervision of caseloads and delivery of regular coaching and training.

  • Own team workflow and capacity planning: allocate matters appropriately, monitor progress against targets, ensure timely completions and drive continuous improvement in productivity and quality.

  • Manage complex and high-value residential property files from instruction to completion, including sales, purchases, remortgages, transfers of equity, leasehold transactions and post‑completion registration.

  • Provide technical support and second-line advisory input to the team on title issues, leasehold/freehold matters, planning/restrictive covenants, indemnity policies and lender requirements.

  • Ensure robust compliance with AML, client identification and regulatory obligations; maintain audit‑ready files and implement firm policies and risk controls across the team.

  • Develop and maintain precedents, checklists, templates and workflow guides to standardise processes, reduce risk and improve turnaround times.

  • KPI reporting and budget management: track team performance metrics, report to senior management and contribute to business planning and fee recovery initiatives.

  • Foster strong relationships with clients, lenders, estate agents, surveyors and other third parties to resolve issues efficiently and deliver exceptional client service.

  • Champion digitisation and e‑conveyancing initiatives, promoting use of case management systems and process automation to improve service delivery.

  • Escalate complex or sensitive matters appropriately and instruct external counsel or specialists where necessary.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Substantial experience in residential conveyancing, typically 5+ years experience (or equivalent) with sound technical knowledge of title, leasehold/freehold and common residential transactions.

  • Demonstrable people management experience, including coaching, performance management and resource planning within a fee‑earner team.

  • Proven ability to manage a mixed caseload and to handle complex or higher‑risk matters, with excellent drafting and attention to detail.

  • Strong understanding of lender processes, mortgage documentation, e‑conveyancing and registration workflows.

  • Competence with case management systems and MS Office; experience supporting digital workflows and process improvement projects.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build relationships internally and externally and to deliver effective client care.

  • Good commercial awareness, numeracy and experience of managing budgets, billing and recovery targets.

  • Commitment to high ethical and regulatory standards and to promoting an inclusive, collaborative team culture.
