Workshop Controller - Belfast

Job description

VANRATH is working with a prominent vehicle dealership in Northern Ireland on the recruitment of a Workshop Controller to strengthen their service team in Belfast. This is a strong opportunity to take charge of a busy van and light commercial workshop within a well established, high volume operation.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Take day to day responsibility for the smooth running of the depot workshop
  • Allocate, plan and execute jobs, taking account of technician capabilities
  • Maximise staff utilisation and sold hours, keeping workshop productivity high
  • Plan workshop space for maximum efficiency
  • Manage holidays and sickness absence to keep adequate cover for scheduled work
  • Coach technicians and apprentices to develop their skills, knowledge and capabilities
  • Liaise with the training department to keep technicians available for training courses
  • Work closely with the parts department to ensure required parts are available on time
  • Ensure all vehicles are road tested as required
  • Complete quality checks to ensure "right first time" across service, repair and MOT
  • Check completed job cards are signed off with accurate and complete information
  • Ensure all defects are reported to the customer with quotes provided
  • Challenge technicians on efficiency, sold hours, lost time and vehicle cleanliness
  • Report any maintenance issues within the workshop
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations and procedures are adhered to in line with legal and company requirements
  • Ad hoc duties as directed by the Dealerpoint Manager or Directors

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong technical knowledge and background in vans and light commercial vehicles is essential
  • Strong commercial focus, with a full understanding of the factors affecting technician efficiency and utilisation
  • Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise effectively and adapt to changing operational needs
  • Full, valid driving licence
