Teacher of Piano (self-employed)

Part-time, Full-time

Stamford School has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Piano Teacher to join our team on a self-employed basis for one day a week. The successful candidate will be experienced in teaching piano technique, repertoire and wider skills such as sightreading to pupils of all ages and abilities. They will have excellent communication skills: if you have the ability to inspire students and help them to reach their full potential, we want to hear from you.

A new Singing Strategy is at the heart of the department’s development plan, to encourage both participation and excellence. This will involve, by 2030, all pupils of all ages having weekly singing sessions in their year groups which will encompass vocal best practice, singing for pleasure and also preparing hymns for singing in chapel. A new chorister programme has been put in place to develop the talents of the best young singers in the school, with bi-weekly morning rehearsals at both the Junior and Senior School leading to a programme of concerts in Stamford and beyond, and regular services in the school’s St Paul’s Chapel. The aim of this programme to develop and equip young musicians, many of whom are pianists, with all-round musical skills which support their wider development as instrumentalists.

Music is one of our core co-curricular pillars here at Stamford, ensuring that our students can discern their pathway academically as well as developing key transferrable skills outside the classroom. It is the school’s desire to develop the skills of all students interested in music, regardless of their current musical abilities, and to promote a life-long appreciation and enjoyment of music. The department, which embraces both the Senior and Junior Schools, offers a wide range of instrumental tuition, including all the major orchestral, jazz and popular instruments, tuned and untuned percussion, drum kit, all guitars, and singing. In addition to the fulltime staff, there are 20 part-time instrumental and vocal specialists, many of whom are professional performers, bringing a wealth of experience into the Schools.

Additionally, there are several orchestras and bands, and a myriad of chamber groups, rock bands and other ensembles. Including external events, there are on average around 70 performance opportunities a year. There is also a biennial Musical in the Senior School. We offer both Music and Music Technology to A Level, and over the last few years students have gone on to study Music at institutions including King's College Cambridge, the  Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, The Royal Northern College of Music, Durham University and Leeds College of Music.
