Edinburgh/Glasgow: Hybrid Working, with office days in Glasgow or Edinburgh

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is an organisation with many parts and one purpose – better quality health and social care for everyone in Scotland.

We are currently seeking to appoint Health Services Researchers (HSRs) with practical experience in conducting literature reviews and critical appraisals. There are multiple posts within the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC), which is part of the Evidence & Digital Directorate of Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

The SMC provides advice to NHS Boards across Scotland about the clinical and cost effectiveness of newly licensed medicines, new formulations of existing medicines and new indications of established products. SMC also has a horizon scanning function that aims to support financial and service planning within NHS Boards through the provision of early intelligence on new medicines development. As an SMC HSR you will be supporting the Clinical Assessment Group activities regarding the critical appraisal of clinical evidence for medicines. You will also be responsible for leading on reviewing submissions and supporting decision making on medicines for which alternatives within the same class have been accepted for use within NHSScotland. The post holder(s) will be required to support all key functions within SMC, with a focus on the new medicines assessment process. This will include leading clinical expert consultation, critical review of literature to validate end-of-life and orphan status, conducting budget impact assessments, and critical appraisal of clinical studies and indirect treatment comparisons.

The posts require experienced, clear thinking and methodical researchers with a broad range of research skills, and excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to a numerate or biomedical discipline degree, the post holder will be expected to have a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject. Knowledge of clinical research methodology is desirable.
